I'm sittin' here readin' the custom knife forum, with ET (Entertainment Tonight) on in the background when I hear, "A knife manufacturer has teamed up to make a knife designed by retired Ex-Marine Rudy Something-or-other." Then, they show the guy using the knife on the TV show, "Survivor." (Which I've never seen.)

Is this cool or what? I wonder who it is. Always a good thing to see knives in a positive light in TV.

Adam,

Rudy is one of the contestants on the show, a retired Navy S.E.A.L. I wonder who is producing the knife?

Hmmm. Since I watched only the first episode of the show, all I know about good ol’ retired SEAL Rudy is that he couldn’t figure out how to start a fire. Hmmm.I would have though SEAL training included survival skills.

Hahaha...that's funny, I'd think he'd know how to start a fire as well. I do wonder who will manufacture the knife, and what gave them the idea. How did they know the guy designed, and hand made it? Anyway, I thought it was pretty cool.

Rudy's last name eludes me right now but I remember coming across his name in a book about the formation of the Seal Teams. He was listed. Frankly, I was surprised that he didn't start the fire but I suspect that wasn't the primary skill needed in Vietnam... He served, he survived and is still alive to play a make-believe "survival" game. Hey, that ain't too shabby from my point of view.

It's probably a Pakistani outfit and they're gonna call it The Survivor after the show. You know how it goes nowadays, a movie or a show comes along thats a big hit and they start marketing products taken from them.

Always think of your fellow knife makers as partners in the search for the perfect blade, not as people trying to compete with you and your work!http://www.nebsnow.com/L6steel

my Airborne Ranger buddy told me that this guy wouldn't have been a SEAL like we usually think of them. he's a bit too old to have been one (JFK got them running i think he said in 68). what probably happened was- this guy was UDT and they kinda took them on-board when they created the SEALs procedure and protocol stuff. so a UDT guy would become (under the same agency or governing body) a SEAL in title. i'm sure he explained it a lot better than i am!

Sorry I could not resist. You are about 7 years late or so. Someone from the forums is sure to know the exact year.

And so, to all outdoor folks, the knife is the most important item of equipment.
