Did Anyone Follow This One?

I did try to check into it, but the seller was not forthcoming with info. I had questions on the display case as it didn't look quite right for the knives and they didn't respond to other questions on the condition of the display case, so I just gave up.

Sellers have got to be willing to provide any and all info requested. I don't know why some are so uncooperative.

Lazy and/or their hoping the picture leads you to believe the item is better than it really is.
A poor rating like that guy's and being uncooperative equals no bid from Gordo.

I always ask a question, any question, just so I can get an appreciation of the seller, especially on Gunbroker, where I'm risking a grand or so on a pistol. So far, I've found only honest informative sellers; but on eBay with knives, laptops, and odds & ends, I've come across people who never answer or pretty much tell me not to waste their time...so I don't... :D

When I looked closely at the display case it looked to me like there were imprints of other knives showing......so the display case may have been totally mismatched......and he never did respond to rate the display case as to condition.

Can anybody tell the likely age of the knives? All I could get out of the seller was that they said Buck USA and he did not respond to further questions.

I've found guys on GB alot more infomative than on the 'bay. I think mostly people on the bay don't know what knife collectors expect, and don't care. Just because their item "looks" like one that sold for alot, doesn't mean the items are 1 & the same

...I agree on the GunBroker thoughts Scott. Every question I've asked has always been answered quickly and so far they have all been truthful in the answers and descriptions...EBay???...:barf:...:p

IMO e-bay is like an Eastern European flea market. Anyone can sell anything. You may find really good deals, but you may also get your fingers burned. It's something of a gamble unless you have had previous dealings with a seller.

Its gotten big and people are making alot of money selling on it and no speed bumps have been put in place to assure the buyers that less than forthright(non-informational) sellers will be disciplined . Its sort of a laisser-faire style of business where by people are expected to police themselves but thats not happening . So, the result is buyers (who are the ones really funding the operation ) are coming away with distasteful experiences . This will cause other similar sites to spring up in its shadow with better standards of operation . Its the American way . In the mean time, caveat emptor ! DM

As has already happened with the likes of Gunbroker.com, AuctionArms.com, and GunsAmerica.com completely taking over the sale and purchase of handguns, shotguns, and rifles, after eBay pulled the plug on them.

As Martha would say..."This is a good thing!..." :D

FleaBay has no incentive financially to do anything to increase seller honesty.
They are focused on the fee they collect from the seller. As such, the seller is more
of a client/partner.

On eBay, the saying "Buyer Beware" is an absolute.

All of you are right on track. I almost got a bum deal this week on ebay. Here is the story...remember what G said above!!!!

I had been watching an old black etch 110 (CA HWY Patrol). The seller had a wonderful knife in fine condition. With one day left and no bids I sent the seller a message with a lower amount than his auction minimum. He sent me a counter offer that was still to high. Just then I remembered the Oden list:rolleyes::D;). Larry had one and for $35 less than I was offering this guy.

Anyway, I declined the guys counter offer and let him know that I found one from a dealer for $35 less than I was willing to pay him. His comment was "that's cool the Internet is a good thing....however, you will not know what you get until you have it in hand". Then he started asking for information on the CA HWY P 110....I gave him the information on when it was made, how many made and so on.

Then I took another look at his auction and his beautiful knife. It was then that I remembered that I had seen a knife like this on another dealers web site. What do you know....the photo's were the same...I mean exactly the same. I contacted the dealer, who contacted ebay and the seller. At first the seller argued with the dealer saying the photo's were of his knife...then the dealer gets another email from the seller "sorry my son posted photo's of your knife and I had him remove them and post new ones".

The new photo's look nothing like the dealers knife. The new photo's also showed that there were some dings and scratch's on the bolsters. That ebay guy is a total fraud and I would have got screwed had he accepted my offer. Yep "Buyer beware", as that ebay seller said in his own words "you will not know what you get until you have it in hand" I did not know he was talking about the stuff he was selling!

Most sellers are pretty good people. Some are scum. You have to play hardball with the scum and they deserve it.

Pay with a credit card.......always.

Don't be shy about telling the seller it's his mistake and demanding that he pay return shipping or you'll do a credit card chargeback, give him a neg and keep his POS item.

The smart ones will cut their losses and hope to make it up off somebody who will let them get away with it.

Sadly, e-Bay has turned into a lawless frontier where nice guys finish last if there's a problem.

But there are really not that many crooked sellers and, as others have said here, there are ways to detect them most of the time.
