Did anyone here go to Marquette University or UWM in Milwaukee, Wisconsin? How was it? Did you like it? Is there anything that would be well for me to know about?

How were the courses of study?

Did you get any financial aid from Marquette University or UWM?

Is there anything else you would like to say about Marquette University or UWM?

Thanks for being patient with me and my college threads, and thanks for any help you can give me. :)

I know that it's a well-respected university, and not everyone who applies is accepted. One young man from Raton was accepted at Marquette this year, but chose to attend a state university instead due to terrific financial incentives from the State.

There are worse threads; College is a worthwhile topic!

Marquette is a very good college, but I can't tell you much more than that. Marquette was one of the universities I had been accepted at, but I ended up choosing another UW school -- mainly because of the major I chose. Financial aide is a given, but grants and scholarships aren't as easy to come by - the UW system isn't too bad, but you really have to work hard to get one. Marquette isn't quite the "party" school mine was (you may have figured out where I went already) but from what I remember of their campus open house they aren't too shabby on the living conditions.

Good luck on whatever you choose - and remember, if you know your intended major, spend time checking out that specific "school" within the university -- you won't regret the extra detective work.

A UW system school that is a "party" school? Say it isn't so! I'm afraid you'd have to narrow it down, since La Crosse, Point, Eau Claire, and Oshkosh all have their own reputations in that regard.

I've known people who went to Marquette and who were pleased with their education. I went to a private school myself, but while I got a good education I also have much bigger debt than my friends who went to the state school. Personally, I would go with the school that is well known for the major you are interested in.

I agree with Suicy - go with the school that fits your major. Each UW school is known for different specialties. If you are an ed major - think Stevens Point, Arts? Point or EauClaire maybe. Tavern management? Madison.

So true :)

Marquette would fit an engineering major well. I'd like to go there. If not, I'd like to go to UWM, but I don't know what their "specialty" major (so to speak) is.

Hilarious! :D But, I don't plan on partying through school. :D

UWM (milwaukeer) chiming in.

UWM is your other catch-all major school (much like madison, and the party scene ain't to shabby either). I love the school, just don't plan on being a frat boy* or sorority girl. There is only one traditional dorm** which creates some housing problems but as long as you apply for housing early you shouldn't have a problem. The city is fantastic, the school is fantastic, no reason why anyone shouldn't consider it.

* Because of an ancient city law any house with more than three unrelated people residing in it is deemed an illegal residence. The purpose of the law was to prevent brothels sprouting up inside city limits before whore were explicitly illegal as well as underground. While there are fraternities, female fraternities, and sororities, the only frat house is sponsored by TKE and only for chapter officers.

** There is only one dorm, so to speak (though there are school sponsored apartments for upper class-men). What we have is a four tower 2,700 citizen behemoth which includes two cafeterias, gym, theater, computer lab, trash facilities and police department (but they do all their "business" on the rest of campus and leave problems inside the building to dorm security).
