i could swear i remember benchmade knives having really nice satin looking blades when they were 154cm, the newer s30v benchmades appear to have a very ugly stonewash finish now that looked all scratched up, did benchmade actually change their blade finish or did i just not notice the stonewash when i handled them a long time ago?

i think it depends on the model of the knife. from recent production, my 495 came with a satin finish while my 575-1 has a stonewashed finish. both in s30v. & it’s not necessarily a new thing or just that particular biases steel. i own an auto rift while my son has the manual version, both in 154cm. the 9555 has a satin blade and the 950 is stonewashed. of course the blade shapes are somewhat different too, with the 950 blade being noticeably taller than the 9555

I think all their blades spend time in the stonewash bin, some just spend longer than others in there. I remember seeing a factory tour video a few years ago, and they talked about a specific model's blade being in the stonewasher as they were filming. I had that model and I could have sworn it wasn't stonewashed, so I pulled it out, and upon closer inspection, it was very lightly stonewashed, although the grind lines were still far more prominent. I'm pretty sure it was a 154CM model, before they switched the majority of their lineup over to S30V.

Yeah it depends on the model. Some are polished after stonewash. Some of the older models are even blasted which are a matte finish.
