My latest purchase on the big auction site is this "S702"-style folder. The sheepfoot blade's tang is stamped "F & L" -- the reverse tang shows "006"

F&L, thanks to Bernard Levine, I know identifies F & L, Electric, New York NY, otherwise known as Friedmann & Lauterjung of Newark NJ. Filling in the blanks I'm guessing that Friedmann & Lauterjung had their "factory" in Newark and maintained a "sales office" and/or a showroom across the river in Manhattan. All of this information from Mr. Levine comes from a "1898 Snapshot" of the US cutlery industry at the time of the Alaskan Gold Rush. F&L is listed amongst major wholesalers and importers.

It's difficult to tell from this photo, but the fit and finish of this knife does not seem to be up to Camillus' standards. The handles look and feel like they're fashioned from some soft plastic -- PVC? -- their edges are sharp.

Talking sharp: with the blade at half-stop the exposed corner of the back spring is sharp enough to cause injury to anyone dragging a fingertip down the back side.

My first thought was that this is an S702 knockoff ...but then maybe if Camillus was making these under an extremely "cheap" contract they would have left out some of the "fancy finishing".
