No pics yet, but I've ive got a vintage carbon 8" blade Chef's knife coming and while there are no visible markings it looks just like a smaller version of Dexter's 45A12H and 45A10H models.
Did they make a 45A8H ?

The handle definitely screams Dexter to me, but it would behave to be contract production because it doesn't seem to have ever had a handle stamp.
I'll post a picture or two when it arrives.

Hopefully the seller ( a fellow forum member ) doesn't mind me borrowing a couple of his pictures.

Overall it looks a lot like a smaller Dexter 45a10h to me, but I have not found anything similar online.

The closest I've found is the 4368, but the blade is noticeably broader than this one which doesn't look like it was sharpened down.

Could be a Robinson. Their handles had no marks. Dexter has various stuff on the handle. Second thought maybe not. Handle looks too thick. Maybe Clyde Cutlery

I'll look into Clyde and Robinson, never thought of them because of the handle shape but of course they could have had other handle profiles.

I'm really thinking Dexter contract production even more, look at the handle shape, thickness, the type of wood, rivet positions.

Theres a difference in blade thickness, but it is an 8" while the other started off as a 10" or so which could explain that.

I could only find one single example of the model online, but I'm now almost 100% positive that this knife is a Dexter model 4368.
Contract or otherwise I do not know.

I wish Dexter had a history online with knives though the years.

I do too.

I keep finding pictures online of the 45a10h and 45a12h with a mix of things that do and don't match this knif in question as well as that Rigs I compared it to, and some sort of information on their site sure would be nice.

Btw they currently still offer a 12391 which is a dead ringer for the 45a12h though in stainless steel.

I have a 45a10H in the block. Love that thing.
I sure wish my Rigs rebrand wasn't sharpened down so much.
It's much shorter and narrower.

This 8" model is nice and full and should be become a real favorite.
It has seen an electric sharpener in it's lifetime which Is a shame, but I'm not going to pay what they go for in much better condition on Ebay.

I cleaned this one up with some sandpaper which I normally wouldn't do, but I wanted to get rid of some of the major sharpening scars.

Someday got to get picks of the oldies I got laying around.

Quite a few with various condition issues
