Did Hinderer copy Emerson?

I wouldn't say it's a "copy". The CQC-8 is a born and bred tactical fighting blade design while the Hinderer is meant to be used for skinning game. I can see the similarities in the blade shape but I seriously doubt there was any copying of designs

It's a clip point, there are a lot of them out there.

Benchmade has some too, they call it a "reverse tanto" to make it sound like something new and different

The '8 is the best executed, pierces very well but is extremely well supported at the tip.

I don't see it as being a copy, to many differences for that.

Besides the Emerson looks much better :D

With the knife being one of man's oldest tools, it is almost imposable to design a knife with out someone thinking it resembles another one.

I was just trying to point out the fact that they are both banana shaped blades, with an abrupt angled clip, quasi harpoon swedge, and saber grind.

Not really thinking that Rick copied Ernie, maybe just took some influence from the design.

Perhaps I should have named my post differently. It was supposed to be a bit tongue in cheek.

Similar but not a copy, That hinderer skinner design is modified from one that other makers have used. I don't think it's something any one specific maker claims to be "their" design.

Here's some other similar ones:
Kingdom Armory Mini Samaritan

Remington Sportsmans series

Chris reeve skinner ubejane

If that is the case, then maybe you showld throw Warren Osborne in the mix, that 940 and the 950 might just be a copy of that too, any any other blade that is a reverse tanto with a clip style blade.

The first time I saw one of the Emersons I wondered if he copied a Blackjack model that came before it. And the Blackjack was influenced by much older Chinese sword patterns.
