Did I abuse my knife?

So... I'm thinning out my knife collection and come across my CRKT M1 folder, sitting unused for years.( got it for free also). I know it's a cheaper knife, some think they are a POS. Taiwan AUS 8. Seemed to be built well, no play and solid lock. So now it's time to destroy this thing. First, I cut up 3 large pizza boxes, still sharp. next I hack, and chop to pieces a 2 1/2 inch thick blow down hardwood, prune, stab, twist the tip, and hack at a large Maple tree, hack half way thru a 2x4, and now it's getting dull. I bring it inside and re tighten the pivot screw, and it still slices paper relatively well. I mean I beat the s--t out of it, and couldn't even get the gun metal finish on the blade to wear off. So the question is, would you consider this a hard use test for any folder? The edge appears to be alright too, no rolling or chips. What do you think?

I think you have a pretty good knife that just needs some sharpening.

I'm going to have it sharpened by one of the pros here on the forums and if it takes a good edge, it's going to jump up to one of my favorites. Never would have believed a CRKT could do this.

I don't own many CRKT's, but after the M1 was discontinued, I pick one up on closeout for the whopping price of $21 shipped to my door. I immediately started EDC'ing it and it quickly became a favorite, I liked it so much, that a few weeks later I ordered a second spare (figured since they're discontinued and the price was so low, it was a no brainer).

That was years ago and it still in my EDC rotation, the original has held up just fine. Surprisingly the blade coating has held up well too, with the only real signs of years of use being the scratches on the painted liners and pocket clip. Haven't even open the second one, haven't had a need, but its nice to know you have a back up of one of your all time favorite folders.

As far as abuse, nah, it's a pretty stout folder that can take a lickin' and keep on a kickin':D

CRKT's get a lot of crap because they are relatively cheap compared to relatively expensive knives. I know I know, that's a dumb statement, but it's true. I have 3 of them. Do they hold an edge as long as some of my other more expensive knives?... NOt usually, but they sharpen easily. Do I like they way they feel in hand and in pocket?... yes. For what they cost do I think they are a good buy?... Definately. Have I beaten on mine?... Definately. I carried my M-16 for years, using it all the time and it took serious abuse... cutting what NO knife should ever have to cut, to finish the knife off. I don't like to beat a dead horse, but since I have a very specific CRKT experiance, I'll share it here again...

Your knive did very well, what should be expected of it. Sharpen it, learn to sharpen it yourself, and take care of it. It will take care of you.

Sounds like a day in the life of my current EDC Benchmade Rukus.
Once I was even feeling a little lively, and we were slaying the fish. I broke it out as several were flopping around on the dock. I aimed at a stingray and let loose, pinning it firmly to the dock.
I got lucky it could have bounced off and into the water.

And the other fish were croakers and black drum. I knew I couldn't penetrate those :)

To this day I still have a half inch of black coating missing from the tip of the Rukus. It's a reminder of that day.

I know a lot of folks on here put CRKT down but I really like my three. They have served me well, reasonably sharp, easy to sharpen, and affordable.
