Did I do a Faux pas?

On another thread "Para Question", I ask about taking a Para Military apart so as to clean up some dark spots on the blade and perhaps to change the bad looking screw on the pivot pin. I got no responses, so I think I may have done a Faux pas. Are there unwritten rules on things not to say in this forum?

I get a great deal of pleasure reading these threads. I love Spyderco knives and own many of them.

Hi Gull wing. It should be an easy take apart. No eccentric pivot to deal with.

The only rules here are be civil and honest. no faux pas probs.

It was quite easy to open up and put back together. I have my Para Military looking spiffy. I cleaned up the dark areas, and changed a screw. It's an even better knife now. Thank you verry much.

Gull wing,
How was the screw on the pivot pin bad looking?
Was it full of metal flakes/crap?
Both of the screwheads of my Para are....

Thanx Steven. I would have preferred that you sent it to us, but at least it (hopefully) will get back to us.

I would not it want it sold to another customer. It never should have gone out in the first place. Our consistency for quality is quite high. We produce thousands of knives monthly. Return/compaint ratio is very low. It is unusual that you would have problems with two separate pieces. My apologies for your inconvenience.

gull wing,
Where did you get a replacement screw?

I suppose I could just call Spyderco, and request replacement screws since this is a known, and apparently common, problem.

Yes, the metal shreads on the Pivot pin screws and the fact that the screw protrudes past the level of the G10, instead of flush with the G10 as it should be. The pivot consists of the pin with a torx socket on the head and a matching screw on the other end (this is the screw I replaced, #4). The above was unacceptable to me, I guess have become discriminating in my old age. The knife performs perfectly in every way.

I would tell anyone to send it back to the factory unless you have knife making experience and have appropriate tools. However, you can get supplies from Sheffield Supply, Koval Supply.
