So I rarely buy knives off of e-bay unless I know what the knife is. I picked this up the other day on an impulse and am not sure if I did OK or not. If the seller is a BF member I apologize if this sounds snotty of me. I just don't know much about the blade and am not sure what kind of abuse it can take. I paid $75.00 for the knife. So far I am happy with it. I plan on getting it in the woods this weekend. If nothing else it will look pretty in my gun room.

this taken from the item description on eBay.
Custom Puukko style bushcraft knife. The blade is mirror polished 440C steel and measures 4.5 inches long and 8.75 inches overall with a blade thickness of 3/16 inches. The handle is stabilized spalted maple, hand machined for a great feel with a paracord lanyard. Included is a matching firesteel. The sheath is made from thick American cowhide leather, hand stitched with wax thread and a firesteel loop and finished with a beeswax coating. The knife, sheath and firesteel were made by me using U.S.A. produced materials, I do a lot of custom knife and sheath work some examples of which can been seen here

Looks and sounds like a good deal for $75. Nice score, I like that one! Hopefully, the maker did a good job on the heat-treating process, so the steel is hard enough to get/stay nice & sharp during use.
Let us know how it works out! :)

The maker put alot of work into it. It looks good. The spalted maple is special. I would have to get $15 at least for the sheath. The firestarter is worth something. I think you did good.

The price is right, the whole setup looks good, only quibble is 3/16 may be thicker than it needs to be, but with a full flat grind, it should slice well. As mentioned, if the heat treat is good, you got yourself a good knife.

I have been taking this knife out with me the last few trips. I'll be honest, I am a little afraid to mess it up. It has taken up a perminant spot beside my recurve and goes on every hunt with me. I am not sure if it will be ok for battoning??? I love the feel of the knife. I was looking for a lighter knife to carry hiking as my rat-7 was getting a bit bulky for light backpacking. What exaclt does PuuKKo refer to??

Not seeing any Puukko in there. Looks like a nice full tang hunter...but not a Puukko.

This is a Puukko...stick tang, narrow blade, scandi ground, diamond blade profile. This one is an antique.

ok I see. When I bought this one it said Puukko style in the description.

It could just as accurately be described as "Persian style" or "Tanto style".

Having said that it don't look as if you got a bad knife out of it and if you're happy that's all that counts.

well...I am very happy with the knife but I want to use it. But the problem is if I use my RAT-3 and break it I can just get another. If I break this one I am not sure it can be replaced.

Well I got some use out of the knife today. not very impressed. Hurts my hand and not as easy to work with as my Rat-3.. If photobucket would work I will post pictures.
