I just ordered a Bucktool from Smoky Mountain, and I'm examining it. One "bug" I see is that when one tool is locked open, the othet tools in that handle kind of dangle, with no tension holding them in place. In the case of the sheepsfoot blade, it can hang beyond the handle and nip your hand.

I'm looking at old reviews of the tool on the net, and the tool they talk about is different from mine in the following ways:

- mine has a full small phillips, not the one with one side cut off that a lot of the reviewers complained about. a good thing.
- it is missing the larger phillips. the legend on the handle indicates it should be there, but in it's place is...I don't know what it is! It's just a small piece of steel with a half-moon shaped hole in it. To attach a lanyard is the only possible use it could have. It certainly ain't a screwdriver.

Why on earth would they waste a slot for a tool for a lanyard loop????

Is this some kind of "Spyderco" BRK Native deal that I got hoodwinked on by SMKW? Will Buck service this?

I own several BUCKTOOLS, both regular and lite versions, and I swear by them. At work there is always one on my belt and they are used constantly. It does sound to me like there is a problem with yours.

I am not familiar with the "Spyderco" deal you mentioned, but I DO know Buck will service anything with their name on it. I am presuming it came with a Warranty/Registration paper. Follow the instructions, box it up and send it in. From experience, I gaurentee you WILL be satisfied when it comes back.

Yes RH, Buck does monitor this forum. Both the moderators Are from the factory - CJ Buck is currently the President of the company and Joe Houser is Director of Consumer Relations and Administrator for the Buck Collector's Club. You may not see either one of them until next week as this weekend is the big BLADE show in Atlanta. If you want, you can email Joe direct by clicking on his name at the top of the page.

Got one for the wife a couple of years ago. Well designed and handy,no loose blades tight as a tick.

I actually bought 2 from SMKW - one for my Dad for Father's Day and one for myself (for Father's Day, of course!). If there is something awry that Buck can remediate, I would send them both to Buck.

I hope this thread hears from CJ when Blade is done.

RH, You dont need to wait for CJ or Joe. Just send them in. Include a note explaining the problems and Buck will take care of it. It sounds like an older version of the tool with the '2' Phillips. I've got one and it went back twice and I requested repair rather than replacement because of the 2 phillips.
In your note ask for repair if you like the tool's set up.The newer ones only have one phillips.
hope this helps.

BLADE has been over for a week...hoping someone from Buck will answer this question.

RH,
Sorry for the delay. I would recomend that you send the tools directly to me. The loose implements sounds like a warrantee issue. I am sure our rework specialist can remedy that. I would also recommend that you include a note indicating which items you want in the handle. If i have them, I will have them installed for you at no cost.
Send them to me at:

Hope this helps,

That sounds great Joe. I've "recalled" my Dad's Father's Day present, so mine and his will be on the way shortly. Thanks again.
