So i recently scored a Gransfors Bruks outdoor axe on Craigslist. I thought for sure nobody would fake an axe right? Well i have some doubts as i have recently learned more about the axe world... I have emailed GB but in the mean time i need help identifying it asap, as the seller has another post online, plus i have there phone number, and i think i might be able to get police involved if i find out if it is a fake soon enough.

Here are my issues: 1 the top of the axe where it is wedged (sorry still learning axes if i am missing a term) has visible glue or wood expander or whatever and it seems a bit uneven. 2 the indentations with the makers initials, GB symbol, and "made in sweden" are all barely there, they seem pooly stamped or etched or whatever. 3 the big one... it says "Gransfors Bruk" instead of "Bruks" both on the handle and the symbols. I could be wrong, it could be real, it seems really good quality otherwise. the handle seems really good grain wise, the head and shape seem like a lot of work to go to to create a fake... I realize that driving a wedge into wood and working an unforgiving substance like metal can result in a product that may not be absolutely perfect, but the "Bruk" thing worries me the most. here are some pics:

I don't own any gransfors burks axes so take my word with a grain of salt. Ive seen lots of their axes tho, and have never seen one with that much wood on top.once again I don't own one so I could be wrong. Take a file to it and see how hard it is. If it's a fake, whoever faked it probably doesn't know how to heat treat.

It could be a b-grade product which Gränsfors only sell in their giftshop in Bergsjö.
I could be wrong but it sure looks like one.
Also, they usually dip their wedges in wood glue before seating them so don't worry about that.

edit: Their b-graders also sell for 50% of the retail price.

Good to know! Thanks! He said he bought it on amazon, but who knows... He also said he never used it, but i know that is a lie just by looking at the bevel lol!

this was posted last year on this forum- Got a speedy reply from Mr. Jorgen Westerlund from the Sweden office. And they have indeed changed the stamp, so the new production units come without the "s." The distinction according to him is that the company name is Gransfors Bruks Ab Sweden, but the product name is Gransfors Bruk Sweden. Sent the e-mail this morning and got a reply in less than an hour!

All the handles i have seen say "Bruks" posted both on here and their site.
