Did I get a used Shaman?

Hi everyone,

I purchased this Shaman "new" from a local dealer here in Canada. The knife arrived with the blade covered in fingerprints, streaks, and schmutz that were wiped off easily enough, however I have noticed that the show side scales appear to show wear. The "dotted" texture of the scales are missing in a swooping C shape across the show side scale. The clip side shows no wear in this regard. The knife has not been carried or used by myself. Is this normal? Also, I'm not sure, but I'm thinking the blade may have been sharpened after leaving Spyderco? The height difference between the edge of the blade and the ricasso seems greater (swoops up to the ricasso) than what I have seen in other user's pics.

What do you think? Is this a used knife? Does your Shaman G10 scales have wear like the ones in the pics below?

Thanks everyone,
A.

Edit: I can't seem to get my images to display inline, so here's the links to my bulk upload of the pics I took:

If I had to guess, it’s a floor model that was handled by someone or multiple people. The blade doesn’t look like it been altered.
Agreed.

OP, it should be easy to tell if the blade has been sharpened by anyone else using any other method/equipment as the factory sharpening has grind lines that are easily visible.

I believe what you are describing regarding the scales MAY have been what the poster in this thread was eluding to: Tread carefully!

Well that was 8 pages of my life I won't get back, and not a single post speaking to the issue at hand. Mine doesn't look as bad as that poster's, and mine is the standard S30V. I'm no flipper and I don't live in the US, so sending back to Spyderco isn't an option for me. Canada border likes to make it's own rules and confiscate anything they don't agree with.

Thus my options are, live with it, pay the shipping, restocking, and re-shipping fee that the retailer is demanding I pay to get a replacement, or fix it myself. (That's the last time I deal with this retailer)
Bummer it's not 100% to your liking, but you bought a good knife that will serve you well. Use it hard and in good health!

I don't believe that's wear. Mine was like that a bit. I think it's caused by SLIGHTLY uneven fiberglass layering when the G-10 is being made.

It'd bother me, I'd return/ exchange it. If I'm buying a "new" knife that costs that much any wear from handling is only going to be from me haha. Then again I'm not a fan of Spyderco's G10. I feel it's much softer than their FRN, such that on a PM2 I had, when I removed the pocket clip that I had tip up, the pattern of the G10 was compressed flat and I didn't even crank that hard down on the screws. The FRN has never done that, plus offers better grip imo
