Did I get burned on this 535 Moose Skinner?

I found this 535 Moose Skinner on Ebay with a certificate of authenticity stating that there were only 72 made. The description seemed accurate on the certificate so I spent a bunch of money getting it to me. It came with the certificate in one of the nice black boxes, but with a black "limited edition" sleeve for the box.
Date on the box says 2021. The marking on the blade is from 2017.
I have also found what appears to be the exact model of the 535 in the yellow box that I was able to get for half the price.
Did I get ripped off?

First, welcome to the BF Buck forum. I can't speak to the authenticity but can say Buck uses blades from different dates and puts them in boxes also dated differently. There was a thread on here not to long ago that spoke to that very topic.
Post up good photos of both knives and someone who knows will be along with information.

Thank you! I'll get some comparison shots up soon!

Buck-B, as Preston says, welcome to the Buck forum. Not having seen both knives but from what I do see I would say you did receive the knife as described on the COA. The 535 was short lived only in the catalog from 2018 to 2020. The 2017 date code blade would be consistent with the first production run of blades. A 2021 box label for a run of 72 knives would be a buildout of the remaining blades most likely. The standard Moose skinner had a canvas Micarta handle without the metal plate overlay. The limited edition had a Dymondwood handle with the plate overlay (as your picture shows). Both had S35VN blades. So yes, based on the partial picture shown, you did receive the limited edition IMO /Roger

edit....All that said, It never fails that after finding a long searched for knife I immediately find a good deal on another.... that is the nature of collecting.... :) :) :)

This thread shows the limited edition release last year, and I believe your knife is listed and legit.

Again, welcome to BF and the Buck forum!

Here is the thread pjsjr pjsjr mentioned:

Cool knife.
You got a piece of history, Joe Houser's last Limited Edition releases.
He retired after that.

I miss those web blasts!
Those were some of the best releases from the factory. In many ways better than the BOTM's.

Congratulations.

It would appear that I now own 2 out of the 72 produced. I wonder why there was one in a yellow box with no certificate? I'd also assume there's more out there without the certificate. I've seen other listings for these with the seller having a few in stock.

Thank you guys for the help!

I'm guessing the LE box was for knives purchased during the initial release.

Extras probably got the yellow box, and we're likely sold at company store and thus resellers.

The LE box may add collector value, but it's the same knife either way.

I display some of my collector knives.
The boxes are in another box in a closet.
That's someone else's problem after I'm gone.
