I epoxied on some dymondwood scales but I forgot to scuff the insides first. Will it still make a good bond?

It depends, it's probably even more important that you had the tang and the scales perfectly degreased. Did you clean them up really well before you glued it up? At this point there is little need to worry. If they hold they hold and if they don't well they can be removed and reglued down the road. I say let the epoxy set up and go ahead and clean up the handle. If the bond isn't good the scales may pop off while you are finishing the handle and you'll have your answer!

Of course if you are making this for a customer and there is any doubt in your mind, you may want to remove them anyway and reglue them. Usually the knife is heated enough to loosen the epoxy bond but not enough to destroy the temper. I don't know how the heat may affect the Diamondwood though, there may be a danger of delaminating it with the heat. Hopefully someone with more experience using Diamondwood will chime in.

Biggest question here is "Are you pinning them on also?" If so you won't have any problems, but if not then you might want to think about removing them and doing it again.

Well it seems to have worked. Ground out the handle and everything held together.

I did degrease with acetone and I did have two brass pins that I did notch with a file is a dozen spots.

Silent, I'm LMAO..... "Customer" you're killing me. These are Christmas presents, I'm very new at this, and I suck, and I'm thinking I'm getting off cheep and cheesy for christmas this year.

Hey, dont knock cheap and cheezy. It is the way I am learning, and I imagine all of these guys learned.
As somebody said "Show me a master smith, and I will show you a guy who has screwed up alot of stuff."

My father dropped his small 3" (now 2 3/4") Cold Steel Voyager clip point and broke the tip. I reground the blade, polished it to 400 grit and did a little file work. I then put a braded tassel on the other end and viola!
He loves it and he wants me to do his medium 4" tanto Voyager, which I am working on for christmas.
