Last I checked, Kabar had just started offering the Remora in 1095 HC with a clear coat. Now, I can't find that one anywhere. All I see is a 1095 HC remora with a black coating on the Kabar website. I hate the black coating. Anyone know where to find the clear coat version?

Might be hard to find now. Kabar didn't make the clear coat 1095 that long. You can tell the 1095 apart from the clear coat 440 buy the logo. From what I've seen if it's has a black logo it's 440 it's is light grey like a watermark it's 1095.

You can see it below.

Black coating is easy enough to strip off...
I suppose you could get a can of clear-coat and spray it (or even powdercoat) afterward. Don't have a remora, but I've stripped somewhere around 8 1095 Beckers and, with a bit of patina, just use 'em as-is.

How come that top one looks so much sleeker than the rest?

I know they are easy to strip. I've done it to a couple blades myself. I like the idea of having clear coat, though. It's not worth the effort of stripping and clear-coating myself for a tiny $20 knife. Also, it appears that they changed the blade shape. I like the blade shape of the middle ones a lot better than the blade shape of the black one in the above picture.

I had been back and forth for a while on whether or not I wanted to pick one up. The clear coated 1095 version peaked my interest. This newest iteration isn't speaking to me.

the american made 440a is good stuff
