So I've started noticing several sites no longer carrying the BK3, to top it off, one of which called out as being discontinued... To top it off, it looks like its under the clearance section via search on the kabar website, though it doesnt show up with the regular clearance stuff.

Is this accurate? I'm hoping not, since that will likely result in my immediately ordering a few.

my thoughts exactly... which was also what lead to my buying 6 beckers in about 1 week

Not in the clearance aisle at kabar.com this morning. It's still in the general fixed blade areas.

The rumors, news, HumInt gossip on the 3, 4, 5 and 15 whacked the living daylights out of my PayPal account!!!

I hope this isn't the case. Not much room for Becker buying at the moment, but know exactly where I want to keep this one.

I've been hearing rumors of the 3's demise for a couple years, but have yet to pull the trigger on one. Once I put a toolbox in the back of the truck, I think it might be time to do that, though.

Well this is peculiar... It looks like its both showing in the clearance section and regular section, though not in the clearance "bin". I'm wondering if the image on the left could be just an old cached version of the page on the kabar site found only via searches.

The BK-3's that were on clearance a few months ago were the ones in the hang clamp packs, meaning not in a box. Same knife, same sheath, just a different packaging.

Just guessing but I'm pretty sure Ka-Bar had a bunch in stock that weren't moving since most customers and dealers order the ones in a box so they clearanced them to get rid of the stock pile.

I don't see the BK-3 going away anytime soon, but you never know. I'm sure they will be around for a couple more years even if they did already discontinue production of it.

Just buy one now and then you don't have to worry about it.

I've had my eye out for a reasonably priced used one but they don't seem to pop up often. I just can't get past the full price for something I don't think I'll use much. It's def on the list.

Picked up a stamped version a while back. The BK3 is an interesting "tool" - doubt I will ever use it though.

Same here - its primary use cases are a bit outside my normal realm of knife applications but i still want several for... umm... reasons.... haha

I've held the BK3, and to be honest I'd rather have the BK2: the same thickness and the ambidextrous grind is better for me as a lefty. The nail puller and chisel shape aren't anything I've looked for in a knife (I have a small prybar for my urban survival kit that is in the car), and the rest of it the BK2 is comparable if not better, like cutting ability and looks.

But after holding it, I understand the appeal, it's an intimidating piece of quality tool. I'd just choose the BK2 first.

BK3 looks like a great knife, but as many mention it's one of those 'for when you need it' knives. It seems very much a tool created for a specific job role, so seeing as not everyone needs to breach doors of their resident druglord/criminal/pimp/kidnapper/ or rescue people out a car crash, etc it's uses are less regular and more for a rainy day scenario or when things go wrong for your average knife user.

Actually, the BK3 is quite suited for use as a digging tool while the doing the old metal detector treasure hunter thing. Most little stuff (coins, rings, medals, medallions, knives) are less than 3" down. So the 3 is great for digging up what ever is making the detector "ding", can be used for taking out intervening roots and for prying small rocks out of the way. I showed one to an avid treasure hunter once and he promptly ordered a set for him and his wife.

The 3 also works very well as an impromptu hive tool. I once lost/misplaced my hive tool and had some hives to inspect, so I pulled my pickup truck emergency bag out from behind the seat and used my 3 to pry frames and boxes loose (glued shut with bee propolis which the bees use for sealing leaks and holes in a hive), cleaning up frames removing supersedure cells. It's way thicker than a standard hive tool, but in a pinch, it beats the hell out of a screwdriver. :D

i've never breached a door with mine, but i did demo my front door and frame. my pry bar might have been more efficient, but not as much fun.
