Did I pay too much?

I recently bought something at a major outdoor retailer. They gave me a $50 gift card. Cool.

Then I noticed that they had a Benchmade 610 Rukus marked down to $125.

Well, for $75, how could I leave that poor old knife there in the case!

I've always longingly admired this knife but balked at the price. But $75 versus $225? I'll take it!

This thing makes me giggle everytime I pick it up, I mean, for a folder, it's huge! I can't help but think of Crocodile Dundee's line when he see's the muggers blade, "That's not a knife," {whips out his Bowie}, "now THAT'S a knife"!
I used to think my 910 was a rather large blade for a folder. The Rukus makes it look like a small 'gents' knife.

Since I got it for so cheap I decided to pimp it with some CF inlays. [No, I didn't pay full price for those either].

I hope BM comes out with a nice gentlemans folder this year 'cause that's what I really need for the urban jungle....

You most certainly didn't pay too much. You got a fantastic deal on a great knife. There is a recent thread on here about the 610 at that store, and what a great deal it is.

I love my Rukus. It is one of the best folders I own. It has the smoothest action of any folder I've ever held. Great, great knife.

Congrats on the great deal. Any chance you may be able to post some pics of the knife with the CF inlays? I have yet to see what it looks like.

As far as a gent's folder, have you taken a look at the 710? I used to EDC the Rukus till I got the 710. The 710 is just about the perfect EDC.

As soon as I get 'em I'll try to post a pic.

You are right, this knife is very solid.
It is actually bigger than my Fixed Ritter Mk3.

What I am looking for in a small folder is something like the Osborne 770 series. Something I can pull out in public without attracting too much attention.
I had a Ritter Mk4 Gentlemens folder which I really liked. The Paul Axial mechanism on it got wobbly after about a week though, so I sent it back. I was really bummed about that because the design was about the best I've ever had in a small knife. If BM only made an Axis copy of that knife....

In the meantime, I'l continue to use the 921 for EDC.

The only way you would've paid too much is if you had the ability to get more at this price and didn't buy them as well. Great score.

I picked one up last week! I knew it was huge, but I didn't "know" it was huge until I played with it on the way home. ((( :D )))

Yup, it's big. One of the biggest folders I've ever seen. Like you say, until you've held one, you can't really appreciate the size.

There is something about a huge folder that is more intriguing than a huge fixed blade.

The Camillus Cuda Max was bigger. They were kind of like a Hibben Fantasy or something though. Almost like a movie prop knife, and, of course, no Axis system. I really never felt like I would want to use the big Cuda for anything but 'showing off'. The Rukus could serve as a survival knife, no prob.
The Skirmish is big too, but it has a framelock, which I don't care for.

People make reference to this knife being built like a tank. It is!
This is a burly piece. I have several other other Benchmades, from 921s to mini presidios, but this thing raises the quality bar up another notch.
The carbon fiber inlays are gonna put this thing over the top.

I hope BM offers some high end small 2-3" folders of this nature in 2008 because I'm hooked on this type of craftsmanship now.
