Did I screw up my mini-commander ?

Hi all,

I bought a 2002 BTS mini-commander that was previously only used to open some boxes. However, the flat edge wouldn't shave my hair and just didn't seem sharp enough, so I bought a Gatco Diamond Triceps sharpener (I was on a budget) and followed the directions on the Emerson website.

I thought it was going okay (though it seemed more like I was sharpening the Gatco sharpener with my mini-commander), but after quite some time of freehand "sharpening", I found that my knife was more dull than ever. Now it barely cuts paper. HELP!!!

Is there anything I can do? I'm thinking of sending it to EKI for sharpening, but I just don't want to be without it. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Please advise me!! THANKS

Maybe try buying yourself a better sharpener - like a spyderco sharpmaker 204.

Then again, I've sharpened my mini-commander with my gatco before.

It just takes practice. Keep trying. Every knife has its own "trick" to sharpening.

You didn't screw it up, you just made it dull. Not the end of the world. As long as there's some blade left, you can make it sharp again.

Even Emersons require sharpening. There is no un-dullable knife.

Good luck.

I've also used an EZ Lap to sharpen some of my mini CQC7's. I just paint the edge black with marker and then SLOWLY drag the EZ Lap down the blade. I've also used the 204 Ceramics free hand. Works very well.
Good luck,
Matt
