Did I screw up?

Recently I sacrificed my favorite camp knife (a BK&T Campanion) to buy my wifes Christmas present which was a Benchmade "Big Spender" (she commandeered my MOD Scorpion a week later as well...good knife month for her!)

The Becker was the best camp knife I'd ever had, but now I've gotten my wifes blessing to replace it with something a bit fancier. A couple days later, I picked up a copy of "Tactical Knives" and saw the Busse "Killer Bee" first thing. I wanted it! I needed it! HAD to have it! fell madly in love with it! spent hours researching Busse knives on line. I knew it MUST BE MINE

So, yesterday after I get some extra cash (by selling other knives, of course!) I trotted down to the local knife to see if they might have a "Killer Bee" in or on order. True to my nature however, I spent my designated money for the Busse on a Mission MPK with a seven inch blade of A2 steel. I hadn't planned things that way....really I didn't! but it was "previously owned" without a scratch, and I picked it up for $160

How do Mission and Busse knives compare? I'm admittedly fairly ignorant about both companies, Mission more so than Busse, but the Mission looked real well made and as versatile as a big knife is gonna get. I'm assuming that like all the other fairly spendy knives Missions have a pretty decent warranty...

So, anyhoo, whaddya' think? did I make a good choice, or screw it up?

Did I pay a decent price for the Mission?

Thanks for takin' a peek here, and for any input provided!

I think ya got a very nice price on that "like new" Mission blade. Darn nice, actually. You sometimes just have to capitalize on the opportunities that are offered. But as a confirmed Busseholic who's already frittered away a fortune on INFI toys, I'd say "What!!??!! It ain't a Busse?" But that's just me. :D

The Killer Bee and the MPK are two different animals, so the answer to whether you got the better knife is a question of what your original primary need (of course it was a NEED! ;) ) for buying the knife was. If you need a general purpose field knife, the MPK probably gets the nod over the Bee. If you want Busse indestructibility & Jerry Busse's "if you can kill it, we'll replace it" warranty, then waiting for the Killer Bee would have been the way to go. IMHO the answer is to get a Busse Steel Heart as the ultimate field knife, because then you get a very tough mid-size blade with Busse bomb-proofness built into it. But you won't get it for $160. ;) Which still leaves the Mission blade as a pretty sweet deal.

The Busse would have had the edge in prying, and in terms of edge holding. But the Mission MPK with 7 inch blade and A-2 steel is a great design and a good cutter with good edge geometry. I recently saw the same knife for 200 dollars new, so you saved some money as well. Also you might still be waiting for the Busse this time next year from what I hear. Especially if its a hot new model. I think you got your money's worth.
