Did i waste my money?

Did i waste my money on a $50 voodoo hawk?

Maybe. You might could have found it cheaper. But I just bought perhaps my 12th Spyderco knife, and I only have two hands. Did I waste my money?

What made you ask this question? I was thinking SOG made a hawk that some people liked. They aren't my thing so I don't know - had to look the voodoo hawk up to find out what it was - but I guess I'm still curious.

Ownly if you don't post a video here showing us how it can breech brick walls, split kindling and still cut paper or kill zombies or what ever it was designed to do.
Don't waste that 5, you can do it!

Depends what you plan to use it for. Life and death-breaching /survival-yes

Throwing, chopping, camping probably good to go

I'm an RMJ guy but I got my kids SOG fasthawks-They run them pretty hard-punched a steel drum, throwing, chopping etc They are still intact.

If you go out and have fun with it and enjoy it then no, it was not a waste of money. If you learn something from the experience then no, it was not a waste. If you chuck it the closet and forget about it then yes, it was a complete waste.

If you're the kind of guy that buys $1000 blades to look at and take pictures and then sell to another nerd in five years for twice what you paid for it, yeah, you messed up.

If you're the kind of guy that wants to go chop something, but it isn't life or death, or your job, then you did ok. Not great. But ok. Better than a $10 Wal-Mart machete.

I didn't have much time when I posted up my thought earlier. If you can return then by all means... I base my experience on a Scout Troop overnight where one of the Dad's had one. He had to get back to work but lent it to me asking what I thought of it. It made for a lousy chopper even though it "carries heavy". The idea of using the pommel was also downright dangerous. Just think of the ergonomics of pounding a tent peg with both the blade and sharpened spike going up and down vertically. Good way to slice up your forearm. It's a compact tool designed for breaching and not woods use. Although at a weight under 1-1/2lbs I question ever getting thru a solid core interior door and forget about your typical steel or fiberglass entrance door.

The other poster suggesting the Estwing makes great sense. I've been itching to try their new 38oz model which is infinitely more suited to real world tasks than the SOG

good thing about having crappy stuff like SOG is that you could abuse it and not worry if it breaks, plus you could practice throwing it at trees.

Edged weapons/tools that are made with cheap and unreliable materials marketed towards a particular style of use are dangerous to the user and anyone nearby. The Voodoo hawk by SOG easily fits into that catagory.

it really depends what kinda usage you are look for in the axe, the voodoo hawk does have some decent use for basic chopping and throwing. Somehow, i still prefer a full tang axe or tomahawk like the CRKT Kangee/chogan or OKC RD-Hawk if i need something for the real job.

It's only a waste of money if you feel like it was. It very well maybe $50 well spent. Have fun with it and beat it!

I find them aesthetically pleasing. Thats all I need for a excuse to buy one. Now, if I bought it to be used as a beater, who knows. For $50 it could make for a camp duty or trunk hawk.
