Did I wear out my diamond stone?

My 6 inch DMT "Dia-Sharp" continuous diamond stone (Extra Coarse) now has a large virtually smooth patch in the middle. After just 2 days of moderate use! I was only rebevelling a United Cutlery cheapie, probably 420J2 steel. It was as if I "shaved" the diamonds off the substrate metal. I did use water for lube.

Straight from the package, it had a slight powder of stray grit. I figured this was normal.
The package said that it would seem coarsest at first, then smooth some, but mine is about as smooth as the bare underside.
The package also said they don't "dish out". This I find hard to believe.

Has anyone else had this problem? My (heavily dished) natural stones lasted over 10 years under the same use.

IIRC, there was a bad batch or similar issues/concerns a whole back.

Pretty sure DMT will stand behind behind them. :)

Call DMT. Those things are supposed to takes years of hard use.

#9: I think my sharpener may have worn out, what do I do?

First, clean it. If you have not cleaned your sharpener on a regular basis, it could be full of metal fines (swarf buildup) which is clogging the stone surface and affecting its performance. If you are concerned that the diamond may have worn off the stone, rub the sharpener against an old glass jar. If the sharpener scratches or frosts the glass, then there is diamond on the sharpener ready for your sharpening needs.
