Did MT make any pre/first production on LCC?

Hi. I'm asking cause I received my LCC MA today(yes!!!) and I noticed an inscription on the blade as follows: 08/2000
Does this mean it's number 8 of 2000 pre or first production(anyone know which?) or is it just simply stating that it was made Aug. of year 2000?
Because of how it's incribed, I would think latter is not the case but... one never knows...

Anyway, from my first impression of the knife, wow... what a nice knife! Love the fact that it came with a sheath, which was a very nice touch by MT. Fit and finish is as nice as one could ask for but to be honest, I do like the fit/finish on my BM 940 better.
I know lot of you have stated that it's better than BM and how it's so close to custom but... That's the impression I got anyway. Also, and I know they did it so it has no chance of rust during shipping but, waaay too much lube on the knife out of the box. Not to mention the "hollow" sound you hear when flipped open... odd...(maybe do to size and material?)
But yep, "hair popping sharp" out of the box. Much sharper than BM. All in all, great knife that is well welcomed in my collection.

Every Microtech I have ever seen is dated.
My M-UTD for example is marked 3/99.

Your knife was made in August, 2000

Sorry!

serial number is located to the left of the Microtech logo. 8/2000 is the date of birth.

But, it's kinda good because now I can use the hell out of this knife!

After closer examination, I'm starting to see why everyone is saying how good the fit and finish is... wow! just one word: SOLID
When it's open, it almost feels like a fixed blade or, at the very least, gives you that sense anyway.
Great knife, very happy with it.

It may pass my 940 as my new everyday carry... maaaybee...

Greg Lighfoot made the pre-production LCC. It was made larger than his custom LCC so there would be no confusion between the two.

I talked to Greg at the Blade Show in Atlanta. He says that when Tony wanted an LCC to use as an example, he didn't have any on hand. Greg contacted a friend and collector that lives near him and borrowed an LCC to send to Tony. That original example was a left handed model with Greg's proprietary green scales.

Greg then made an example for Tony and the lefty was returned to it's owner. My understanding is that second knife is owned by one of our very own forum members (who, if he ever decides to sell it, I hope will shoot me an email first), who purchased it at the Blade Show from Greg and Tony.

There were three LCC DA prototypes made in 5/2000. Two of these went to the Blade Show in June 2000 and the third was kept for Tony's personal collection with a matching MA Prototype.

I purchased one of the 5/2000 protos from Patrick at Triple Aught. Greg traded the second Prototype to Bob Doggett (a great guy and knife maker) at the Blade Show and I was able to secure it for a friend. John (Chief) Furguson of Chief's Cutlery was able to obtain the third from Tony (and he will not sell, I keep trying

).

There are later DA Prototypes marked 6/2000 and some MA Prototypes marked 5/2000 and 6/2000. All are marked "Prototype" like the example below and some have different blade grinds (like mine).

hope this helps

John

Great Job John and fine pics!

If I only owned one knife, it would be the LCC/DA proto in the picture above. Unbelievably fast and the fit and finish are of course, perfect. Want to use it but won't as it is just too rare. Can't wait for the production ones.

Hay, anyone of you wanna sell your proto?

I noticed something...
on my blade it's scribed: Lightfoot-LCC
few I've seen are marked: Lightfoot Compact Combat
What's up with this?
Also my sheath don't have the shark... what's up?
Oh well... still nice knife.

I'm not selling and I'm still trying to talk John out of his.

The first MAs out had "Lightfoot Compact Combat" on the blade and starting, I believe, in the 400 serial numbers, they switched to "Lightfoot-LCC". Probably a "PC" thing.

The first LCC MAs to hit the market had the regular MT Sheath and the latest ones coming out now have a sewn shark on the sheath. John's sheath is the only one I've seen with the embossed shark and as it was Tony's, it may very well be the only one of it's kind.
