Hi --

I'm coming over from the Buck Forum to ask a question that's being asked over there, basically, who created Sears' Craftsman-brand of lockback knives? Some are thinking it looks like a Buck 110, some are thinking Schrade LB-7.

The description is available on the Sears web site, http://www.sears.com/ Just search in the Tools section for 95316.

Here's the thread:

Thanks for your time! GeoThorn

Looks like a Camillus to me, check the shape of the bolsters and the position of the rivets, Buck 110 has the center rivet closer to the middle, Schrade LB7 has a different front bolster, kind of flattened at the bottom and only three rivets.

Go to the site, follow the link to Camillus current product line, then to Folding pocket and lockback hunters and check the large deluxe lockbak #9.

Thanks, Don Luis!

I have to agree with you. Looking at the images and concentrating on the rivet pattern, mostly, the Craftsman looks most like the Camillus. I doubt that a knife manufacturer would change their basic design to fulfill a contract outside of their firm, if the contract only specifies a copy.

Thanks again! GeoThorn

Ill add another name into the mix..

I have a Craftsman 95226 with Uncle Henry LB8 stagalon handles and the identical shield but the bolsters , flat ground blade and pin placement are exactly the same as the Imperial 4815 U. (which are different than the UH's)

Its one hell of a hunter reguardless of its parentage.

So all this says is that Sears sold knives made by anyone they could find to make em for them.

Both Camillus and Imperial/Schrade had a long history making CRAFTSMAN knives. In the 30's and 40's, the earliest ones were made by Camillus....CRAFTSMAN was etched on the blade, and the tang mark was HIGH CARBON STEEL USA.

I have several 1950's era Schrade Walden bone handle pocket knives with CRAFTSMAN etched blades. I have also seen a number of them with ULSTER tang markings and CRAFTSMAN etched blades (after WWII, Ulster was also a division of Imperial/Schrade). Ulster was the lower grade brand as compared to Schrade, but above Imperial.

I think Imperial/Schrade made them almost exclusively up to the mid 70's, them Camillus took over from then on.

Does anyone know if SEARS still sells CRAFTSMAN pocket knives or other brands? I know that the SEARS HARDWARE stores used to have a big muti-brand display, but these seem to have vanished from the stores lately.

My local Sears still sells medium and large 3 blade Stockmen with wood handles that are made by Camillus.

I do believe Sears has sold many different brands under the Crafstman name, last one I saw in Mexico was a Kershaw assisted opening. I have also seen many with their own brand names such as Schrade and Colonial, and in Mexico the Spanish made Aitor and Muela.

Hi knifeaholic --

From the looks of the Sears web site, yes, they do still sell Craftsman knives. Just go to http://www.sears.com/ and type "craftsman knife" (without quotes) into the All Departments search. 39 "hits" come up in that search. Maybe Craftsman knives are only available online, but emailing Sears might be the place to ask if your local Sears carries them.

Wendy,
I can't tell from the picture, but if the handle is textured rubber and the shield says SOFT GRIP, then it is very probably one that we made about
20 years ago.
