Sorry in advance for this stupid question as I am new to knife collecting. Did Schrade use a production dating system similar to that of Case? If not, how can you tell how old a Schrade or Uncle Henry is?

Its a good question. There were no date stampings like Case. We cannot get an exact date on very many of the production knives. We can tell from catalogs an flyers when a model was added or withdrawn. We can tell from different tang stampings when a knife was stamped. Its not an exact science but one that makes the challange a little more interesting.

Thanks Irv! Is there a worthwile publication that gives good guidance on Schrade/Uncle Henry valuation, dating and identification such as the "American Premium Guide to Knives and Razors: Identification and Value Guide"? Haven't purchased one yet and wondering if this is the "standard" that is commonly used or if most collectors use a different one? Thanks again.

I'm sure their are some books on the old Knives .But as to the value it's up for grabs since the old Schrade company went out of business the prices have gone sky high on the USA made knives.

I have some of the old Catalogs and price list in my office that go back to 1968. If I can be of any help let me know.

I just recieved a flyer from Cincinnati Industrial Auctioneers inc. showing the FISKARS BRANDS INC factory equipment going up for auction. Looks like Gerber is taking everything under that brand overseas along with most of their products. Also it should be noted that Gerber's China made products do not have any country of origin on the blades only the packaging. Customer's may think there getting a USA made product. Oce they throw the packaging out it become out of sight out of mind.
