I've had a switchplier since it came out, and had a problem with it binding when the plier opens so it's been sitting in a drawer waiting for me to get off my duff and send it in for repair.

Anway...was doing a search today and ran across this...

Is this a ripoff or did Sog sell this multitool?

WBC, I have read some other post in the past where it said something about licensing with SOG. I think this applied to a few other companies/tools, exactly which ones I can't seem to remember. I know there were several post concerning this, but I don't know if it applied to the Switchplier.
If I were to take a guess, I would say it were a license deal through SOG. I did a search on this tool and found that several sites still have them including this one,
http://www.1sks.com/store/sog-swpl76-switchplier.html .

You should send that tool in and let them check it for you, they have a great warranty department. Contact them here and ask what to do, or call,
warranty@sogknives.com or 888-SOG-BEST

Robbie Roberson ;)

Yep I need to send it in along with an Air Sog that needs tuned up.

My only concern is that these Stanley / United Cutlery units are being sold as cheap as $7.00 whereas my Switchplier was ~$60.00. I surely hope they are not the same quality. :(

Check the "size" of the tool. A "mini" (key-chain sized) knock-off from China happened and SOG decided to go with it rather than fight it. I believe they had United make them.
