Did some batoning with my MS today...

Cool pics! An original SJ in 3/16 would be perfect for what you're doing...

Nice. I Have used the Vaseline cottonball combo my self. I am trying to get a fire bow to work right now. I can get smoke, but have not gotten any fire yet. (Trying to get the scouts to pay attention, let alone try to make it work is a struggle).

Thanks for the positive comments everyone. There was a "challenge" on another thread for everyone to go out and practice some bushcrafty/survivaly kind of tasks, and this was my answer.

I've never tried a fire bow... but I think I'll stick with my ferro rod for now. Much easier! :D

Pretty neat! I had been going into the hills to practice this kind of stuff, but kinda slacked off lately.......you have inspired me to get back at it....thanks for posting that.

Excellent pics, and thank you! My best trick for starting a fire anywhere is still good ol' flint and steel...I used to do living history and was forced to become proficient at it!

A girl needs a knife...
