went hiking in one of the state parks here near the appalachian trail. how far i was from it i have no idea since i suck at directions. this is my first time hiking (in a real trail) so i only planned for a few hours of hiking but i packed enough food, water and other supplies to last three days in case i got lost. lol...anyway, pics.

it's still mostly brown. i didn't see a single animal or insect for that matter. kinda creepy actually. i was half expecting the predator to show up and light me up!

gotta work on my ninja hiding skills. my filipino skin complexion does match the brown pretty well. maybe if i sit still the zombies won't notice me.

i've only had my beckers for a few days but i'm already itching for more!

nice pix...

what's with the critter?

Nice pics, JV3, and nice Beckers, too. It looks like a good time.

By the way, someone took a bite out of your Armadillo: just thought you should know.

thanks. it's an armadillo shaped bottle opener. this guy who makes rifle scope mounts gives them away with each order. the tail works for regular caps and the body is for twist offs - never know when i accidently run into a cold one out in the woods :)

thanks. i needed a late night snack and well...

I have those two. Great knives that complement each other.

hiwa = Filipino ( tagalog )...to cut something.

i'm still fluent in tagalog. i was born there and lived there until i was 13 (31 now). my first knife was a balisong :D u.s. customs confiscated one of my souvenirs though when i came back for vacation.

thanks guys. that little critter i think is made out of extruded aluminum.

mark larue is a very generous, stand up guy and with just the two weeks of lurking here, i quickly saw ethan becker is the same way. i like to support guys like them so i just ordered a bk2 :D

Yep, it's aluminum. I've went thru 2 of them so far. Pretty soft and caps smooth it out...or maybe I just open too many bottles. :D

He's got one like this now too:

He sent me some of his Dillo Dust BBQ rub with my last order free of charge too. Pretty good stuff. LaRue are good folk.

Nice pics, and welcome to the family. Beckers rock and you will love them. Most bang for the buck on the market today. IMO!! They beg to bust stuff up, then ask to head into the kitchen to prepare dinner. The bk9 is a great chef's knife. :D

Hey JV....

Thanks for the nice compliment and thanks for the great photos....Glad to hear you are gettin out there.....Alone in the woods is ALWAYS a bit intimidating at first and as time passes you really start enjoying it.......My first night out solo was a SCARY time.......

Welcome to our forum and I am happy you lurk no more.....

All Best.....

great pics. Thanks for sharing. I just moved from an area that had great wilderness hiking just minutes away.

Now I am in central WA with desert in every direction. Sagebrush hiking just does not have the same wow/cool factor as some decent woods hiking.

i have more pics for you guys...i ordered a bk2 wednesday night and didn't expect it to get here until monday but the mailman delivered it yesterday morning. it was just above freezing so i wasn't planning on going outdoors but as soon as i opened the package i just had to get out there!

i hiked for about an hour and stumbled upon this stream so i took a break and started to break-in my new beckers.

no fire pics yet. i'll probably check out harriman state park/some of rescueriley's recommended trails next so i can practice fire building.
