Did some more work on my PK

Did some more work on my PK (Bura blade). I put a 2" wood saw on the spine with 12 teeth in two rows. There are also upper and lower finger grooves for choking up on the blade for more control during certain tasks.

The sheath rig pictured is my 2nd Gen PVC pipe sheath with one of my nylon webbing frogs.

wow those cross saw teeth look like they took alot of work to make! When I imagine a post apocolype carry knife... there she is!!!

The saw teeth were a tad time consuming.

I leveled and smoothed out the spine, then I measured and marked out alternating diagonal, vertical cuts. I then cut the teeth out free hand with a cordless dremel and a cutting wheel, and then I finished them out with jewler's files.

The knife concept is sort of a merger of a small khuk, a tradional hunting knife, a skinner, and airforce survival knife, and Tom Brown's Tracker.

The blade is 7" from the tip to the handguard, 6" of which are sharpened edge.

I'm striving for a knife that is convenient to always carry while in the field, can skin and then butcher an elk or a whitetail with excellent efficieny, fight with if need be, and easily build shelters, traps, etc.

So far I've found the HI PenKnife a pretty good platform from which to start. This knife holds a hair shaving edge and stays sharp even after hacking through a surprising amount of stuff.

Nice work. It does remind me of a hybrid khukuri/tracker. Looks very functional. Have you tried the saw teeth out yet? I'm wondering how well they will hold up given the relative softness of the spine.

That spine is hard enough. Not as hard as a file, but plenty for a saw like that. I tried it out already on some 2 year desert dried hardwood and it works very well.

Saw teeth on the back of a wilderness trekking knife are used for stuff like notching things, trimming the ends of things, cutting emergency stretcher poles, etc.

I chose that tooth design because it works extremely well, even if it gets tad dull.

That would be interesting to show to Bura and the rest of the gang in Nepal :D

Nice work!

Nice work! Those teeth look sharp enough to saw right thru comm-spec body armor, and the blade should be able to easily minimize blood spatter when covert esanguination is necessary! :D :D

Seriously, that is a hell of a nice job. Good attention to detail and looks very strong.

Norm

Stained the handle, brass lanyard hole (epoxied and peened), gunblue on the buttcap, vinegar dip on the blade and handguard.

MRostov?

Although the tracker style is not to my taste, you are doing very craftsman-like work on your Pen Knife. I can't imagine how hard it must have been to make the saw teeth. Nicely done.

It is fun to make something uniquely your own, isnt' it?

Nice.

This knife project was originally mainly a prototype for more projects I have in mind.

The kamis make good blades and those blades make superb platforms for developing some of my own ideas on what I prefer in a knife. The PK, for instance, is a great blade design, but the original handle simply was just too small to use seriously.

There is a lot of knowledge around here and I've applied a fair amount of it into some of my ideas.
