Did a bit of work on my Bura made HI PenKnife.
Bura's tempering was excellent and the blade shape, size, and geometry is a superb design for a wilderness knife. For fieldcraft, this knife with it's 7" blade way out-does knives that are noticeably bigger. It smokes a Cold Steel Trailmaster.
The biggest problem with an HI PenKnife is that the handle is sized for smallish hands. Fortunately, due to 'cho creep', there was a bit of extra real estate to work with. For a knife like this, I also prefer a handguard.
The handguard and the buttcap were cut with an angle grinder from the tough metal of the door hinge from the totalled out cab of a 1975 Dodge pickup. The handle was made from bottom half of a carpenter's hammer handle.
The handguard is silver brazed in place from the tang side. The hickory handle and buttcap were secured with lots of JB Weld and the tang was peened over tight onto the the thick steel buttcap before the epoxy set.
Probably will do some more work on it later, like adding a brass lined lanyard loop hole.
The balancing point of the knife is right in the center, right about where the blade edge starts.
