Okay, stretching the international nature of bladesmithing, Australia has managed to catch a wee bit o'my attention... and from the looks of it, the attention of several of y'all... So, I thought I'd try another maker from Down under... Mr. McIntyre... I've been watching his stuff for awhile now and decided now might be the right time... Oh, and one of our very own local celebrities also thinks it's a nice addition to my collection...

Forged 1084
6" blade; 11 1/2" overall
Contoured wavy maple
And his own black leather sheath...

Hope y'all like it half as much as I do, 'cause this guy knows how a working handle should be built - just a tad longer than most so one can change grips with alacrity and feel secure in any of them, reverse, ice-pick, fencing... It all feels right! :D

Very nice. After seeing up close, how nice my own McIntyre hunter is, I had to work another trade. I have almost the exact style knife you are picturing here on the way. Only mine is a tad smaller, and has Ringed Gidgee wood for the handle.

What a beauty! I love that unique looking piece of maple. Any chance you could post a view of the other side?

All the best,
Mike U.

That's a very nice mid-sized fighter. I'm definitely going to have to take a look at one of shawn's knives some time soon. Danbo - quit buying up all the gidgee-handled knives out there will ya? :p

Hey Roger, the last several knives I picked up have been from trades. No money available. :)

Thanks guys...

Danbo - you'll love yours! And the local celeb who particularly liked this one was none other than ol' Nick Wheeler himself! Had very kind things to say about the whole package... and he really liked the handle, too!

Misque - sorry, I had to lift the one pick from Knifeart when I bought it... Sorry, no other pics until I can get my act together and upgrade my PC to be compatible with my digicam... I seem to keep depleting the ol' bank account buying Steel... no money left for the basics! :D

And to everybody else - Shawn's knives are great all the way around - from steel to feel, this guy seems to know his stuff!

I'm really glad Shawn's knives are starting to get some coverage. That knife, like all his pieces are superbly and lovingly (obsessionally??) built. I have had the privilege of spending some time in his workshop, talking knives and handling many of his knives, a lot of which have been works in progress. It has been a wonderful experience to watch his knives "come to life" from forged to finished pieces.

And his mosaic damascus ... MAN !!

Jason.
