I bought $400. worth of belts from Pops at the Harrisionburg Knife Show. When I got to my shop I started grinding a big blade. Here's what I never did before. Each time I ground the blade, I used a brand new belt. From 36 grit to 600 grit, a new belt! I turned up my nose at a belt I'd used just once and pulled out a spanking new belt. What satisfaction!! And what sharp grinds! Great fun. Alas, it can not last. sigh...

I can't remember who it was, probably Nick Wheeler or Bruce Bump, but the statement was , "Use belts like they were free."

I order from Pop's and my bill is around that for belts. My time is far more valuable than the dollars I possess and I use belts with that in mind. From 120 grit up I'll use older belts but when I'm grinding with 36 and 60 grit ceramics I put new ones on the grinder. Making passes on a new 36 grit 984f is one of lifes real pleasures.

I've always had a new 36 grit, or a 120 grit, or something new, and then a lot used. But I've never had all new belts, ranging all the grits. I got a real high, guys. Lots of fun. Each pass was such a clean cut I could feel it throughout my body. Silly, huh?

I agree with that.

The funny thing is the 36 grit 984F is probably the longest lasting belt I use aside from the Trizact CFs. I'd like to use a new one on every knife but they usually last me 10-20 knives before they get retired to profile duty.
I wish they made the Cubitron II in 150 or 220 grit.
