So as the title says, not too proud of this but some good did come of it. Surfing the web a few weeks ago, with a drink in my hand:foot:, and I bought something that I knew was a knockoff but for $6 shipped to my door I said why not. Its a ESEE IZULA from one of those Chinese stores......i blame the bourbon and coke. Anyways felt bad the next day so I went and ordered a BK15......the low price on them has been driving me crazy!! Got them a few days ago and wow I really cant believe to what extend they go to.....i mean it's even packaged in a plastic bag with ESEE stickers and all. But of course when you hold the knife you can just tell its NOT an ESEE. The BK 15 on the other hand.....wow nice slicer!! To be honest its the only knife I own that is that "pointy" I'm more drawn to drop points.....but again the price was hard to say no to.
Anyways I'll stop rambling and just ask for forgiveness.

Now just gotta decide on a leather or kydex.

Sure looks like an Izula, but good call in the BK15 regardless! sweet, sweet blade.

Congrats on the 15. It's my fav.

Now just gotta decide on a leather or kydex.
BOTH, of course!

The standard 'shorty' 5" KaBar leather sheath fits the Tweeners as well.

Good call on the 15.

As far as the faux Izula is concerned, no worries. Beater knife.

hso brought one of these to the Becker Gathering to show off. The packaging was quite convincing. The knife... less so.

I was graciously allowed to bring that example home to beat on. The screen printed "serial number" is the same as the one flav posted above and the orange "powdercoat" looks to me like spray-paint.... very uneven and already peeling back from edge after Ethan used it for about 42 seconds. I took a closer look at the card, and while the print quality is quite good, it's rife with typos. The instruction sheet appears to be a photocopy of a photocopy.

These knockoffs are becoming more common.... This one was a piece of fresh pig dung...... Please let Jeff know where you acquired it...... It is getting so bad that, I have been given to understand, that the Spartan guys want proof of purchase from a known dealer before doing warranty work..... I certainly cannot blame them...... If you buy these pieces de merde you are not only encouraging intellectual piracy you will be on your own and the quality tends to be REALLY bad...... I tried to sharpen the one hso brought and you could almost see the repurposed Asian Spam can labels it was made from through the crummy pink paint job...... Truly caveat emptor...... Beware......

Ethan

Quoted for truth!

$6 or $12 for an Izula? C'mon now. If a deal sounds too good to be true... it ain't true. That's just common sense. Please support reputable makers, manufacturers and retailers/resellers.

Just getting ripped off is bad enough. The real nightmare begins when these knockoffs fail, someone goes ballistic on teh interwebz, and good makers/manus get blamed for it. :grumpy:

The only place I buy knives now is from a reputable store or from the exchange forum, I ain't into fake stuff. The BK15 on the other hand is a great knife, got another one on the way after my brother confiscated one of mine.

yah I totally knew it was a knockoff....again I blame the bourbon! The spray paint is already starting to peel off on the handle and the card is filled with typo's. I got it on Aliexpress..........there's literally hundreds of them on there.....on the other hand my BK15 is awesome, its my go to steak knife at home, I love how my wife rolls her eyes when I whip it out!:D Priceless

What got me about that knockoff was how far into detail they went with the packaging. The stickers were what put it over the top. A made in USA sticker with ESEE's contact info on it?! Plus a barcode sticker... I can't help but wonder why they're going that far.

So they can sneak them into various stores? *shrug*

What puzzles me is, if they had put that much effort into the knife itself and changed the shape a bit, they could have made a decent product and still been able to undercut the price. Obviously there are factories all over the world that can make good knives when they want to. But of course criminals don't think that way... they just want to rip-off someone else's reputation and the "made in the USA" part.

Probably more like so stores can sneak them into inventory. Lol. Punish those dealers to the fullest. I hate to say this, but makers like ESEE are asking for this by asking high msrp for mass produced stock. People want their products, but can't, or won't pay their prices. Not saying ESEE is the worst for this. I'd say TOPS is probably the worst. I can't say Busse, because they consider themselves "custom" makers, though I sure don't, and he goes as far as his trademarked holes. As long as those guys keep asking what they do for their products I believe this issue will escalate. If the people making these knockoffs are starting to go this far I don't think they are going to stop at ESEE alone, nor any time soon. Makers be ware...

Makers be ware...

As far as us handmade guys go, it often starts when you get an email from Pakistan or China offering you a fantastic deal to let them make their blades for you... just send them a prototype... I used to get emails like that almost weekly.

It is harder to tell real from fake. Yeah there are some scandalous priced knives out there just asking for copycats. But it goes the other way for Beckers - The knife you get for the price when I started googling in US sites I first thought they were fake (not at all common finds in UK so little did I know), until I realised that they really are that price, so I bought one. So I have never seen, heard a complaint from friends when I tell them the price I paid for a BK2! So shows how much of a good thing we got going!

Then you sent them a knife, and they said "Crap we can do better than this" and they left you alone...lol Snark snark Dont get mad, you know I looooove you James..
