Did the Kopis spawn the kukri, or an entire family of recurved edge weapons?

It is generally believed that the khukuri evolved from the kopis. But, what about other recurved weapons? Did they also evolve from the same origin? Is the khukuri merely one example in a family of related weapons?

I wish I knew for sure but don't and I think probably nobody does. Experts (and I'm not one of them) have their opinions but I think that's the best we can do -- just voice an opinion.

The direct descendants of the ancient weapons known as "Kopis" in ancient Greece and Asia Minor and "Kyris" in ancient Persia include the deadly "Yataghan" in modern Greece and Asia Minor and the modern Indo-Persian "Sosun Pata" (meaning lily leaf). Other recent relatives from India include the "Kubja", the "Kirach" and the South Indian "Aydda Katti", From the Himalayas comes not only the famous "Kukri", but also the longer "Kora" and two-handed "Nokhlang".

Then there is the Javanese Mentawa. Now there's a knife Uncle Bill might want to reproduce...(put me down for s/n #1 if you go for it :) )

Uncle Bill,

I have neither the talent, nor the skill to make such a thing. So it might take at least a week. :)

Bill, not only do I not have one, but I've never heard of one. I need the source info from KK so I can add it to "the book".

I just checked mine, and they all KHLANG, when tapped.

C'mon, KK. If John is stumped, we're all hungry for details
