Did the Mnandi Get Updated?

I was looking at the CRK website and I noticed that Mnandi's nail nick looks like it's now an oblong hole. Is this just lighting or did the knife get updated?

CRK did change the nail nick. It used to be blasted and add grip. Was also sharper on the edges of it to add to the grip as well. Now its polished and rounded making opening one handed much more difficult and almost impossible for some. Also the pivot was changed to the smaller design. The original was larger and helped hold the inlay in, while this one sits inside and the wood is around it. The clip was also changed. This happened a couple years ago. I MUCH prefer the old version. Its one of the few design changes that I just do not like as it effects the function of the knife in my opinion. I have since been mnandi-less unfortunately.
 
I think what you are seeing is an optical illusion, the nail nick does not go all the way through…Nyefmaker is of course correct in his post,
 
Thanks guys, I was aware of the change in nail nick from a few years ago. It must be an optical illusion in the photos or someone did a poor job isolating the knife in the image. Because it really looks like it's a hole that goes all the way through. I actually think it looks pretty nice that way. Ha, go figure.

Do you know the approximate year they changed the Mnandi?

The following are rough estimates.
New clip and new pivot were introduced around end of 2011 or beginning of 2012.
New nail nick was introduced around middle of 2012.
 
Interesting, mnandi is difficult to open one handed, I grab the blade and flick the scale open just holding the blade.
 
there was a video posted awhile back how to open the new mnandi with one hand, quite easy actually, start using thumb and index to get the blade out a bit, then finish the opening with your thumb, with a little practice its easy
 
I prefer the new design. I like the soft edges and the recessed pivot, the one hand opening thing doesn't bug me because in theory it's a "gentleman's folder", not a tactical knife. I don't claim to be a gentleman but when I carry my mnandi I sometimes pretend I am :)
