I started down the traditional folding knife rabbit hole over the weekend, hit up the big auction site, and bought what I thought was a cool Knife. Now I’m wondering if I jumped the gun before verifying authenticity.

Would the hive mind review these pics and let me know if this is a legitimate tang stamp? The guides I found today suggest the rounded ‘S’ should instead be made of three straight lines.

Feel free to smack me around if I goofed.

Welcome to BF! :)

That tang stamp does look off to me, and doesn't match the 2010-2019 stamp. Did you get a box with the knife?

Looks good to me, the "S" would be the three line type if it were Tru Sharp stainless, the round "S" would correlate with CV "Chrome Vanadium" in a broad sense carbon steel  A 2003 release like Matt said.

Thanks for the confirmation. I was feeling a bit dumb for not investing more before purchasing. Now I can just enjoy my knife.

I must be missing something here, and that always means I've got an opportunity to learn something. :)

The "swooping" C in Case on this tang stamp looks like the 2010-2019 version (and, to some extent, the 1993-1999 version), but nothing like the more linear C in the 2000-2009 stamp. What marks this out as a 2003 production?

It’s the . X . X . X. used for 2000-2009. I have to keep a printout handy to keep the years straight F6A2D5F5-2EFC-4690-95AE-9D077314E3E3.jpeg

But the date signifier on the "In 2000" stamp starts with a dot, not an X, whereas the "In 2010" stamp starts with an X. The stamp on the OP's knife, curved "s" aside, is an exact match for the 2010-2019 stamp.

I love Case tang stamps, but I'm no expert. I'm not deliberately being obtuse, though -- I genuinely don't see how this stamp looks anything like a 2003 production stamp. How is this not a 2013 knife?

Based on when I bought mine from a dealer, I think you are correct.

You are correct based on the three x's on the top, this would be a 2013. Confuse myself with Case stamps, even with the chart.

I rushed in answering and with looking closer your correct at 2013
