Did this thread die prematurely?

I'd never seen it before you posted the link. I really enjoyed reading it, and it's a shame it didn't continue. Just speculating, but perhaps Charlie might not have had the time to devote to the thread. He certainly has had other things going on lately. To me, it looks as though a considerable amount of time and effort must have went into producing such a concise and well-illustrated mini-guide.

Whether or not this thread is continued, thank you for sharing the link, and thank you to Charlie for taking the time to create it.

It was created in 2008 and locked, I think it is/was supposed to be stickied.

It was closed because Charlie let me know at the time that he just didn't have the available time and opportunity to proceed with it to its completion.

I guess if the day ever comes again where we can resuscitate it, we'll get it resurrected and stickied.

I suspected that might have been the case. It would be nice to see the thread continued, but I very much appreciate the thread as it stands, Elliott. Thanks for the explanation :)

This was such a good one, I saved it in my favorites. Too bad the torch could not have been passed to another of the fine experts here in the community.

Man, just look at those knives!!!!!
One day... one day I may be lucky enough to own just one like that Diamond edge Jack-whew!

The thread needs a little renovation, but perhaps I can revive it after the holidays!
It does take a lot of time. . . . .

Charlie, let me know if you need any assistance if and when the time comes.

Clicked it to my favorites to go back and drool some more later :D
You are amazing Charlie!!!

With the time you've been devoting to having well-loved patterns re-created, I'm sure people will be more than understanding. Between the Harness-Jack and the Barlow, you've become something of a cult hero.

For what it's worth, though, your thread as it stands reads like a well-designed publication. If you were to add a bit more and publish it, you'd get my money. Thanks for all you do for us, we're lucky to have you :)

I have done something similar for a woodworking site concerning instruction on fine finishing of furniture. It is a time consuming, black hole. What you did took a lot of work and organization, but I hope you know how much it is appreciated by the folks on this group whether they let you know or not. While I have carried and used knives daily for 50 years, I must confess that I don't know that much about their history or the correct nomenclature. I would bet a lot of other folks don't know that much about the origins or correct names of patterns, either.

That's why your thread is not only a fun and educating read, but an important archive as well.

And if we could get you and Elliot together.... you guys could make the super sticky archive thread for the group! Don't know of many more in the league you two play in.

Thanks for all the good work, Charlie.

Robert
