We all know there are lots of threads on best "survival knives" & the like, I'm curious to hear of real life situations where the knife you chose to carry really did save your life. I guess those that chose not to carry can't really reply..............
I don't mean "I went climbing & had to cut the rope I was tangled in" or "cut my seatbelt with it", I mean real stories like the ones used to market these knives, like the situations depicted on so many TV shows "nine days before rescue arrived, had to baton logs with my knife as they were wet on the outside", & "tied my knife to a long stick to spear fish to eat" kinda stuff.

I was wearing a DuPont buffer's jacket that was slightly too big.

The right sleeve got caught in a lathe. I managed to stop it in time before I got injured.

I pulled out my Benchmade 741 Onslaught and cut away the sleeve and then went to find a smaller-sized buffer's jacket.

It didn't save my life, but it was quite convenient be able to cut that sleeve away when I needed to!

My modded BM Skirmish saved my life countless times. I used to be a meth addict and lived with my dealer for approx a year. I bought a Skirmish and started tweaking on it. All the traffic coming through the house watched me toil on this knife and practice my wave draw. Some folks were seriously disturbed. Because of this, I never had to pull my knife.

Not sure if I really want to tell my sodding story as it still makes me mad, sad and somewhat proud at the same time.
I gained a second chance at life that day, but the downsides of my actions are close to outbalance the gain.
The pain in the shoulder ever so slightly remains as do the images, burnt into my mind.

"It" still looks and feel the same as on that day and it will still be always the same, long after I will be no more.
I guess, that makes me more fortunate than "it". :)

I cant say it saved my life but sure helped more then you know... I was cutting firewood alone about a half a mile from anyone around me. I was backing my tractor down a small slop to pull out the crown of a red oak. As i was backing in a branch about 4 inches around came flying flying up and pushed my akle into the clutch pedal. Now the whole weight of the tractor rolling back was on my foot. I yelled out for about 30 mins trying to get someones attention with no luck. It was starting to get dark and in the middle of January temps in the 20's going into the teens. My phone was in my truck about 50 feet away and was not able to get off the seat to grab my saw or axe. After collecting myself i remembered that i had my Victorinox Spirit in my bibs, i pulled the saw out and ten mins latter i cut though that branch, and was able to drive to the ER. Now i make sure i carry my phone and try not cutting alone when i can.

That sounds painful Andrew, glad to hear it ended OK.
I suppose it's much more likely that someones EDC has been useful in a tricky life threatening "everyday" type situation, I suppose that would have been a better question, simply "did your knife save your life", it's unrealistic to expect anyone reading this to have actually been in a "TV type" survival situation, that'd probably need a few million views to get a real reply.

I cut a sandwich in half today. I might have starved to death if I didn't have a blade handy, I just can't eat uncut sandwiches.
