I can't imagine this guy even getting old ... :(

It happens to the best of us. Agent 86, Maxwell Smart, is gone.

Don Adams of 'Get Smart' dies at 82

He was born Donald James Yarmy in New York City on April 13, 1923, Tufeld said, although some sources say 1926 or '27. The actor's father was a Hungarian Jew who ran a few small restaurants in the Bronx.

In a 1959 interview Adams said he never cared about being funny as a kid: "Sometimes I wonder how I got into comedy at all. I did movie star impressions as a kid in high school. Somehow they just got out of hand."

In 1941, he dropped out of school to join the Marines. In Guadalcanal he survived the deadly blackwater fever and was returned to the States to become a drill instructor, acquiring the clipped delivery that served him well as a comedian.

After the war he worked in New York as a commercial artist by day, doing standup comedy in clubs at night, taking the surname of his first wife, Adelaide Adams. His following grew, and soon he was appearing on the Ed Sullivan and late-night TV shows. Bill Dana, who had helped him develop comedy routines, cast him as his sidekick on Dana's show. That led to the NBC contract and Get Smart.

Can you picture Maxwell Smart as a DI ??? :D

His TV wife was a total babe.

Also, the shoe phone and especially the "cones of silence" were the funniest thing on TV!

"Would you believe . . ." that I even remember him from the Bill Dana Show?

I know, I know, that was a cheap attempt at humor. "Sorry about that!" :D

I tried to post this story before anyone else, but I "missed it by that much."

RIP Don Adams

When you get in close to a communications tower like a cell phone you can no longer connect with the antenna . We call that the "cone of silence" which will be forever a tribute to Max .....A DI ???? wow.

Maxwell Smart was a DI? Missed it by that much... :D

I grew up watching the "Get Smart" re-runs.

I'm a cop and I still can't say, "Hello, Chief." in anything but a Maxwell Smart impression. :D

R.I.P. and thanks for the memories!

RIP Agent Smart.

(loved the opening credit sequence with all the different doors leading to the elevator that took him down to headquarters  )

I loved that show, may Mr. Adams rest in peace. He brought alot of humor into the world.

But I am trying to picture him in a campain hat!

Thank you and R.I.P. Agent 86. You were one of my first exposures to the wonderful world of 'Secret Agents'. Whenever I look at hardening a potential target now, I still think of all those armored doors slamming shut :D
