I'm unfamiliar with GM models. The wife thinks we might need an RV to haul dogs to dog shows in. I'm thinking a large SUV preferably diesel might work as well or better. No way we can afford new.

Or any other suggestions for a low cost RV or similar setup?

When I was a teenager, I would go to dog shows with some folks I knew. They showed Shelties and Akitas. Strange combo. Good memories. Anyway, they used a full sized Chevy van, which was plenty good for their needs. Guess it depends on how many dogs you have. Whatever you get, consider letting someone else eat the depreciation on a new vehicle, and maybe buy a '93 for 60% of the original sticker.

As for the RV, keep in mind that you can pay for many years of hotel stays for the same money. If you do it for fun, thats another story.

best regards

That's a good point and it's certainly something we consider. Another issue is that for some shows it would be nice to have a bed, kitchen, air cond or heated space to hang out it.

Get yourself a '93 E150 Ford Van (extended). Add a $6000 slightly used lightweight, smallish travel trailer to take (or not take) to shows as needed. Gives you the option of either using just the van, or pulling the party barge.

You might do well to look for a used Ford Excursion with a diesel engine right now. Ford introduced a new deisel engine a year or two ago, which is really popular and alot of people traded in the old ones to give it a try. Also seeing a lot of used trucks on the lot lately due to fuel prices I suppose. The excursion is only a little bit bigger than a suburban and should drive like a cadillac. Ford's superduty platform really handles and rides well, and the powerstroke diesel is great.
The excursion was discontinued awhile back, but you still see them around.

A used Excursion is your best bet, since they don't make a diesel Sub.
