The plain cross is on the Vintage ('80s) ones and discontinued. The ones with regular shields are current manufacture. Silver is the standard model. The blue and red were produced as limited production runs and no longer produced although there are still some around.

i have a red ALOX pioneer with a silver cross, if its a limited run what was it limited too?

To further confuse the issue , the cross is found on Swiss military knives , the shield and cross is a commercial trademark . Older farmers , pioneers etc often had the cross at one time or another .

It wasn't a limited run it was just how they made them in the 1980's and before. So it shows you SAK has a few years under its belt, and that's no bad think IMO. :)
