difference between 1st and 2nd gen 0550

I am new to ZT and want to know why eveyrbody always asks if it is a 1st or 2nd gen?

Does teh 1st gen have quality control issues or design differnces I need to know about?
 
Gen 2 switched to the deep carry clip and moved the lockbar cutout to the outside. I've heard some complaints of 1st gens having overly stiff detents.
 
My first Gen 0550 is perfect since I got it broken in (lock bar just a bit sticky at first), so don't hesitate if you get a chance at a first Gen at a great price. That being said, it does come down to personal preference, standard clip or deep carry, lock bar cutout on the outside or inside. Both are good choices!
 
I have an older variant and it is great. Came to me perfect. All I did was after flipping a day or 2 add a drop of oil to the pivot and it has been uber smooth.

Also have a gen 1. Except haven't used any oil. Just hot, soapy water to rinse it out, has been perfect since getting it in my hands. Never had a stiff detent issue. Ever. Can't really go wrong with either gen IMO.
