What are ther differences regarding POB, COP and other blade characterisctics of the two? Are there more similarities or differences?

For all khukuries the center of precussion should be on the forward drop, about 2/3 of the way up the blade. Exactly were it comes in and how well it is centered will depend on who made it and how good a week they are having. These are handmade tools, no two are exactly the same, and they actually can vary quite a bit.

The start of the bend, and the aggresiveness of the bend are different on each. The 30" sirupati is farther out and less aggressive.

The 30" Sirupati is too heavy for almost anyone to use and the ones who can use it would probably be better served with a 25" AK.

Manoucher, Yep, there is a 25" AK. It's a special order. Back when Durba was still working for HI, he made a few. I know that Roger has one and so do a few other forum members. You can see some pics here.

Also, if you do a search you should be able to find some pics of me using a 25" AK (fondly known as Godzilla). It's one mighty chopper.

Rusty, if someone can handle a 30" Sirupati, my neck would never know the difference between that and an AK 25" if he was coming my way.

Geeze...why does a guy that strong have to be armed too? Seems unatural..he should just pull my arms off my trunk.

My favorite swords are always big! Such as DT Kandknecht sword and this brute is a destroyer! Just swinging it make you feel the power of it! You do not need to test cut! Another favorites of mine are kats which are big and have sturdy blades witha long tsuka!
Then it goes to Claymore and the Chinese horse chopping dao! And now a 30 inch Sirupati! Next I will get to know 25 kobra!
I am just in love with these big brutes!

Manoucher:) :) :)

Manoucher,

These are not swords, just sword sized khukuries. They can get really heavy, and unlike a sword, they grow stronger with every inch. I guess if you can find a solid 7 foot tall guy, equip him with one of the big HI khukuries, and send him after a 8" spruce; he might just be able to take it out with a single swing.

We should get something like that on video and send it to the folks at Cold Steel. :)

Anyway, we all know what would happen if we tried the same with a real sword. :(

At 5'4" the only use I have for the 30" Sirupati is it pulls my back into line when I swing it. No need for a chiropractor.

That doesn't mean the same for you, but I agree with n2s.

A 25" Kobra is a different story. Marvelous according to those who have them.

Rusty, Bill recently related a story about a long Cobra. ( I think it was the 30" Cobra but I could be wrong, maybe the sirupati) The Kami's warned him people would treat it as a Khukuri and break them. That is what happened.

Heehe! Munk you make me laugh!

M.M.: You might also try collecting some other large weapons, such as spears, halberds, pole weapons, etc. They're big, and usually cheaper than swords. I've got a good collection startd, with some antique and ancient pieces at the center of the collection...

Dear friends,

I can swing my 30 sirupati with no problems even using some nice moves, do not put my nice blade down:( . I am sure it will make a good challenger to a Kobra 25!;)

Munk,

interesting you mean the 30 inch blade behaves like a sword and not a Kuk and therfore breakable, am I right?

If it is ok, I would like to jump in?
I use a 30 " Kobra, also to help align my spine. I do not think a 30 " Kobra is weak or prone to break. I have not abused it but have used it. Very devastating on wood. I think limbs of flesh would not stop it. I have developed my own style to advoid self inflicted slashes. It is very dangerous if you miss your target. I have managed to control it it so far. One handed requires more hip movement and positioning of the opposite leg. Two handed is easier but still requires concentration. Remember, there is no room for error. I also perfer using two 20" khukuris instead of one to keep my balance. I hope I didn't muddy the water. All the best.
Sam;)

I've only been here a few weeks. I read a lot and quoted Uncle , and made an observation about weight relation to length. The swords cannot possibly be as strong as the shorter blades, it would seem to me. !But I bet they're a hell of a lot stronger than other people's swords!

Hopefully, you'll get more feedback and can make a good judgement for yourself about what you need.

The 30" Sirupati is a khuk. The 25" and extinct 30" Kobra are swords, lighter weight and breakable, although according to Tom Holt the 25" Kobra will take one helluva lot before it breaks.
The concern was with the 30" Kobras. The kamis said they are swords but would be treated like khuks and they were right as usual. Several 30" Kobras were bent or otherwise damaged because people tried to use them like khuks.
Bill doesn't sell the 30" Kobra anymore and that's why I said it's extinct.

So the Sirupati is a Khuk sufficient for lopping off heads of state.

What a weapon.

Hey there,

I'm due to be recieving a 25" Kobra any day this week. From what Tom (as in Tom Holt) has been tellin' me, it's *THE BEST* Khuk for *ANY* use you can think of, short of trying to chop thru a rock (which I doubt any sword of that shape could stand).

Respectfully quoting Tom:

"Bottom line; it's as tough as an axe, but it handles like a sword and cuts like a scalpel."

I haven't tried to prove it as yet, but I'll be letting everyone know how it is when Tsume No-Ryuujin (that's what I'll name her) comes in...
