I have a 311 Trapper but can't find anything on the 329. Anyone know the difference? Thanks!

Go to the Buck For Sale area at top of this forum, there is a yellow handled 329 shown in one sale thread. They only came in yellow delrin. 311's were thinner and most common in black delrin, but came in a couple of other scales also. Lets do a search of the forum for 311's and see if we can find a good photo for you. 300

Ok, Here you go, try post number 17 for photo of a 311.

Thanks - I've seen the one in the for sale thread - that is what sparked my interest. I actually have several 311's (all black delrin), so am familiar with those. So basically the 329 is yellow delrin and a little thicker?

As in many cases of a off-site contracting situation, the Buck Model 329, has several "brothers". You will find a Camillus stamped model that shadows the Buck shape and I believe a couple other companies have trappers made by Camillus that are design brothers also. MooreMaker may of sold one made by Cami. As you state it is more robust in its construction than the 311. Buck/SMKWs sold one in a special edition with a belt buckle and a printed American Flag on the scale.

Thanks again! So what do I buy and what do I pass over to complete my Buck traditional folder collection? AGGHHHHH!!! :grumpy:

Here are some side by side photos of a 329 (1988-1993) and an early version of the 311 with the model number on the pile side (1972-1974). The 311 is a more slender and longer knife.

Here's quick one to go with Bert's, will keep looking for boxed belt buckle set. 300

Here you go.

Notice the Pledge is short a word or so, was issued before the Pledge was officially changed.

OK, The Pledge I took/gave when I was in grade school (started school in 1961) had two additional words in it. I will not mention what the words are, as I do not want another infraction for using one of them.

When was that buckle and knife set issued?!?

I thought the 110 was Buck's first folding knife ...

You can mention "under God" in context as an addition to the Pledge of Allegiance we all said every morning, first thing in elementary school. But don't get worked up using the Pledge as a dating tool. It was changed in 1954 after a campaign by the Knights of Columbus to Congress. Why this box is miss printed is anyone's guess.

Without looking it up, this set was a special offer by SMKWs only, the knife was a Buck tang stamped version of a Camillus produced and often sold as their own, knife. If my memory is close I will say late 80's. Maybe 88 or 89. This Cami model was also stamped and sold by others. I will say Queen and Mooremaker but could be a lie.

Yes, the two oldest Buck folders were the surplus WWII lifeboat knives that H.Buck replaced his own blade into and then the 110 which was a total Buck creation. I will say the 110 was the first since the other was just a modification of someone else's knife.

Thanks for your input,

The 329 was a Camillus contract model and was sold exclusively by SMKW. They are all good to have.

Oh,my bad....I thought they were saying the Flagged version was smkw only?
I guess I read incorrectly,

Bert is correct but let me address the specifics of Vapors and JD posts.

Both the Model 311 and 329 were build by Camillus knives. The 311 was built to go with the (regular Buck catalog) 300 series by having slanted bolsters, black sawcut scales. The steel was Cami standard SS of the era. The model 329 (but only sold by SMKWs) was marked BUCK, 329, USA but had straight bolsters. The special issue with a printed flag on the smooth yellow scale and with a belt buckle was conceived and offered by SMKWs with Bucks permission. But, so was the non-flag scale. The Buck 329 was one of the first special Buck offers by SMKWs and got tang stamping as if it was a black scaled contract Buck only 300 model. Its straight bolsters were similar to 'other' companies copies of this design also made by Camillus. The next in line SMKWs offer with the four bladed Congress model, with straight edged bolsters and had NO model number stamped on any tang. Other SMKWs special offers were the big and small Barlow and the big two bladed trapper "aka Farm Knife". They all came in a yellow scaled version and none had model stamping on the tang. I am disappointed that if you EDC the 329 with flag on the scale it will eventually wear off. 300

I am disappointed that they left those 2 words off of the Pledge myself,as I'd probably never EDC
it anyway.....I have a few knives I carry,or use....The rest I just look at....I sometimes get small
collections and get rid of the ones I don't need for my display.....I have a couple of nice used
bucks i need to list if i ever remember to take pictures of them....

300,did you notice mine has darker swirls in the yellow in picture?...Is that normal?....

Thanks for all the info on this forum.....Anything I need to know I can get it right here...Such
a GREAT place to hang out and mostly look,or read.....Im not much on talking unless i need some
info.....Typing(talking)that is....
In face to face chat my wife says I can talk her head off.....
I think she gets un-nerved now and then with me for rambling about my Hobbys....JD

P.S.I meant to ask If they made a single blade Trapper in black,or yellow?...And,or a swell
end Jackknife? Two of my favorites along with the e.o.jacks...

JD, It does have marks on it. You might see if some dish soap and water would take it off or some toothpaste. Even some WD40 on a piece of t-shirt might wipe it off. If you think it is not on the surface it would be some scale material that actually had something in the delrin mixture. All I have seen were uniform in color. 300
