Difference between basic and swamprats

Hello, first time in this forum. I have been looking to purchase my first serious fixed blade. Been looking at the swamprat camptramp and the Busse basic 7.

Other than the listed difference in the blade steel and slight difference in the hilt, what can anyone tell about these knives?

welcome jjcoolay, basics were before my time but i do have a howling rat and a camp tramp. i love them both especially the howler. i'm sure when eric see's this he will comment.

One difference is that you can still get the Swamp Rat. People don't seem to let loose of their Basic 7s that often. I have a Basic 9 and a Basic 3. Still looking for the other 2.

How hard are you looking?! I just wandered into a Basic 7 at the last Indy 1500.
