Difference between "Classic" and "Regular"

As I am very much into the "new world" of the 21, I am asking a maybe stupid question for the Sebenza experts. At the famous timeline thread this information is posted:

Regular Sebenza Large: 1996 - 2008
Regular Sebenza Small: 1996 - 2008
........
Classic Sebenza Large and Small: 2000 - 2008

So between 2000 and 2008 both, "Regular" and "Classic" were available. What are the differences? Has anyone comparision pics?

Thanks!

Stefan

Thanks. I think the bottom one is a "Regular", correct? Still don't get the point why they have been produced in parallel for about 8 years.

What I could figure out, the blade shape/style is different and (obviously) the scales. Some say that the regular is more easy to close because of more room/space for the thumb to disengage the lockbar (which sounds logical to me, looking at the pics).

Yes, the bottom one is a regular. They were produced at the same time because of small details such as differences in blade shape and of course the scales. There was also engraving on the classics on the other side. I bought my first sebenza in 2006, and choose the regular because of the lack of that engraving and the visual flow of the regular scale cut out.
I have not really observed a difference in the ease of closing, but my hands are on the smaller side so you might be different.

I can't tell a classic from a 21..except for the writing XX classic.. did the 21 just follow after the Classic? I'd like to see the other side of those knives, Bart

I have lots of regulars and 21s, but no classics so I can't help you with my own pics:) if someone doesn't chime in with the pictures you are looking for do an internet search and you might find the pic you are looking for!
Bart- which part of Houston do you live in? I live just north of the city.

There is a quite a bit of info out there, but here is a summary:

- The very first production Sebenzas were very similar to a Sebenza 21.
-After many years of producing these Sebenzas CRK changed the design, quite extensively, to produce what we call a "regular" sebenza (bullnose blade, traction scallops, convex rather than concave handle back).
-There was outcry from Sebenza fans over the new design (sound familiar??) so they re-introduced a modernized version of the original older style Sebenza as the "Classic XX", at this point calling the newer style design the "Regular" and making them both concurrently.
-Ironically the "Regular" was discontinued and the Classic, with some updates (different slab bevels, larger thumb notch, no rounding on lockbar) was changed to become the 21

he Classic came to be because Chris discontinued the original design in favor of the Regular, and people threw a fit wanting the old design back. Just like they're throwing a fit now wanting the Regular back.

Having a ton of experience with both the Classic and the Regular, I can honestly say the Classic/21 is a way better design. Notice that the 25 resembles the Classic more than the Regular.

Honestly, I feel like CRK hit the nail on the head the first time. The Regular and 25 are both uglier than the Classic, and I'll take the bearing over the standard pivot in the 25 any day.

The CRK folder line was smaller back then, so it was possible to do both the Regular and the Classic MM at the same time. As Chris added new models the Regular was sacrificed to make some room.
At least that is how I see it

Hey all,

thanks a lot for all the interesting input from the "CR knowledge base" over here :-)

Really worth being with you, lady's and gentlemen.

The Classic also has a wider chamfer for the thumb cut out, the rounded lockbar for lock release, and those fantastic highly polished low profile pins and screws.

I much prefer the Classic over the 21.
Glad I put back a couple of sets of the older screws/pins.

Sorry I don't have a comparison pic. I didn't keep a 21 very long.

Thanks guys, I've used them all Regs, Classics , and 21's .... not a bad one in the bunch.... The best one is the one in my pocket at any given time!

I also prefer the Classic to the 21, but not as strongly as you do.

What would have been really nice is the Regular blade, with its deeper belly, in the Classic chassis - IMO, YMMV, etc.
