Difference between D2 and softer steels in sharpening

Just how much harder is D2 to sharpen than softer steels like 154CM and AUS-8. Will regular bench stones work?

D2 sharpens up real easy for me. I like it a lot! A well oild stone or the Spyderco system works fine. If you've got a buffer....that works really well on any steel for the finishing touches on a fine edge.

D2 will sharpen with anything, but sometimes it takes longer to sharpen than other steels. Really depends on the thickness of the edge more than anything.
