Difference between Flipper & Speedsafe

I'm new to Kershaw knives & when looking at their online catalog, I'm confused as to the difference between the two methods of actuation. Specifically, the Chill & the Volt II seem to use the same mechanism, but the former is a Flipper & the latter a Speedsafe.

I understand the process of the Flipper, but how is the Speedsafe different? Can anyone explain?

Thanks

Speedsafe is basically Kershaw's special term for assisted opener, meaning all you have to do to it to open the knife is deploy the blade via flipper or thumbstud, and a torsion bar makes the blade "spring" open after a little push.

Got it. Much appreciated.

So some, but not all, Kershaws that have a flipper stud sticking out from the blade also have a torsion bar inside the handle?

If it says "speed safe" then it has the torsion bar assisted opening. A knife can be a flipper without speed safe. For example the Skyline has a flipper but it's a manual knife. The Leek has both a flipper and assisted opening.
