Difference between FSH and HHFSH

I guess the heading says it all so what is the difference between FSH and a HHFSH. :confused:

Thickness.

The Heavy Heart is about .270, as memory serves, compared to about .250

.

I believe the FSHs were a flat grind and the HH were a saber grind.

The FSHs came in various finishes (black, Desert, Jungle, Urban, etc.) and you could get the HHs in any finish you wanted as long as it was black.

So if I have what I thought was a HH FST but its green its not a HH but just a FSH?? I will have to check the grind to verify.

Himm - all I have is a ruler so checking thickness is not always easy or precise. Himmmmm?

(after reading the above I think my answer is self evident.... I need to go home and have a few sips...;) )

I also noticed that the blade isn't as wide as the HOFSH, not sure if this is the case with the standard model. The HOFSH is 2" wide and the Heavy Heart is somewhat under that.

I believe the HHs were the more basic blade- at least I seem to remember them costing less. In other words, I think I'd be happier if it was "just a FSH"!:thumbup:

Also, I don't know if mine is unique (wouldn't that be nice!) but my FSH appears to be full convex- unless my straight-edge isn't.

Straight, that is.:D

(all prices = standard scales)
the standard fsh was 327,
hog version 427,
and hogLE version was 597.

they are both .25 as far as i know.
the standard fusion steel heart had a full convex grind (cnc bevel, no major corregation), and the heavy heart had a flat saber grind.

if yours are thicker then that, then i beleive they are just thicker then normal. i know that my heavy heart is a solid .25".

feel free to correct me if im wrong :D

I have recently bought a HH and asked Jerry Busse the same question. His reply was:

"The regular model was .220" thick. The HEAVY HEART is .265" thick . . . so it is considerably thicker."

He didn't mention the grind BTW so I guess both knives have the same grind.

Greetings.

Here's a photo for comparison. The knives are, from the top, a standard (NASA) HH, mag HH, desert camo FSH, and a standard black FSH.

In my opinion, the standard HH and the FSH feel almost alike in weight with just a little different balance.

My FSH's are convex and the HH's are saber grinds. The HH's were only available in black.

The mag HH I have feels totally different than the others. On that one, I think Jerry gave me the full .275 inch thickness that Skunk mentioned in a post when they were introduced.

FSH = 0.220"

HH = 0.25"

HOFSH = 0.315

MOASH = 0.345

but there will be variations of course:thumbup:

From my blades....

FSH-standard - .248 Convex Grind
HH-magnum - .272 Saber Grind
HOGFSH - .332 Flat Grind
HOGFSHLE - .316 Flat Grind
SHSH (the precious) - .264 Flat Grind

Have a couple others not at hand to measure, but that's a start...:D :thumbup:

***Edited to add Grind style***

Best regards,

John

The HOFSH is full-height flat-ground. My ruler makes contact across the whole width until the edge grind begins.

I wonder if you guys are confusing the primary grinds with the edges. I'm pretty sure these are all flat ground, with the HH being saber vice full height.

Note my edit above on each blade style... FSH is Convex, HH is Saber, HOGFSH *and* SHSH - Flat.

Thanks!
