Difference between Maxx Glide and IKBS?

Hey everyone,

I tried doing a search here on BF and on Google, but didn't come up with anything. I know Darrel used IKBS in some older stuff he did. I saw an old thread saying that there were other bearing systems he could have chosen from and alls I knows now is that they switched over to the Maxx Glide system. I'm just curious on what the differences are. Thanks

Maxx Glide uses shielded thrust bearings. IKBS does not. His system is superior because of the shielding. Less crude to gunk up the pivot, not that I hear that's a big deal unless you dive into mud and play in the dirt.

You don't hear a lot about Maxx Glide because IKBS is a licensed system and Maxx Glide isn't. Only Darrel uses it; he came up with the bearings. Because IKBS is licensed, you'll get a lot of fanboy praises, but that system does have short comings which I alluded to above. The only other maker that uses some form of shielding is Brian Tighe, and IIRC, Darrel helped Tighe come up with his shielded bearing system.

That sounds like a great system. Do you think Darrel will ever use the Maxx Glide in any of his HTM offerings? :)

Doubt it. That just drives up cost. If he did offer it, the knife would probably be an HTM custom offering. I'll see what he says at Blade.

Hi Guys,
Just a little history. Brian has his own system. I dont know what it is. We sent him drawigs of the Maxx Glide to review and offered it to him for use.
The IKBS is a great system. It is just not for me.
We did apply for a patent on the Maxx Gluid and we do own a copyright on the Name and Logo for the Maxx Glide Pivot Bearing system.
THE BEARING SYSTEM THAT KEEPS YOUR BALLS IN THE RACE LOL!!!!!
You may see a MAXX GLIDE show up in the HTM line soon.
All of our DDR CUSTOM VENTURI V8 Balis have the Maxx Glide and the NLT pivot system. This is a pivot that is adustable, doen not come loose, and does not require LOC TITE.

That looks beautiful. You gonna have some surprises I don't know of yet at Blade, Darrel?

I'd really love to see an HTM DDR Gun Hammer Bowie with a 4" blade and Maxx Glide.

I could live w/o the the bearings but the market is flooded with 3.5" knives and I'm never buying another one. I'm tired of fancy (or rugged) politically correct, office environment, gentleman sized, sub-4" blades for guys who complain about a few extra ounces in their pockets. :grumpy:

Man I'm in a bad mood about small blades. Sorry
